Phil Kessel wasn’t even aware he was playing in the 800th game of his career until the Pittsburgh Penguins forward glanced up at the scoreboard at some point on Friday night against Columbus. ”I guess it’s a lot of games,” Kessel said. Kessel slammed home a loose puck in front of the Columbus next 3:15 into overtime for his 17th of the season and second of the night as the Penguins pulled within two points of the second-place Blue Jackets in the taut Metropolitan Division.

Matt D’Agostini scored his second goal of the game 1:45 into overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders on Friday night. D’Agostini, who opened the scoring 6:53 in, jumped on a loose puck in front of the Islanders’ net and put a quick shot past Mike Morrison after Montreal blew its second one-goal lead with 5:57 remaining in the third.
