Erik Cole scored with 47.2 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals on Sunday in the preseason opener for both teams. Cole’s second goal of the game came with the Hurricanes holding a two-man advantage. Eric Staal’s shot from the slot tipped off Cole’s stick and sailed past goalie Michal Neuvirth.
