Phil Kessel used the same formula that’s worked for him in the past, and new Boston coach Claude Julien wasn’t about to change either. Kessel scored the lone goal in a shootout to give the Bruins a 1-0 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday. After the first five shooters failed in the tiebreaker, Kessel skated in on Henrik Lundqvist and fired a wrist shot under the crossbar.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman raised the possibility of next season beginning after the tentatively planned Dec. 1 start date, even while the plan remains for each team to play 82 games and the league hold a full playoffs. Much like its plan to resume this season, the league hopes to adapt to the pandemic circumstances in the U.S., Canada and worldwide and is open to adjusting on the fly as the situation evolves.
