On April 20, 2016, the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a trade that helped set each franchise on separate paths for the future. The Browns sent the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft along with the No. 139 pick in the 2017 Draft to the Eagles for No. 8, 77, and 100 picks in the 2016 draft, the No. 12 pick in the 2017 draft, and a second round pick in 2018. The Eagles took North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz with the No. 2 pick, anointing him as the future face of the franchise. The Browns could have decided to stand pat and select players where they were, but instead decided to expand on the trade, adding more picks through more trades.
