Josh McCown’s two seasons with the Browns were loaded with injuries and losses. McCown’s contract was terminated on Tuesday by Cleveland, which also released veteran cornerback Tramon Williams in a pair of cost-cutting moves that will clear more salary-cap space as the team prepares for free agency and the NFL draft. The 37-year-old McCown went 1-10 in 11 starts in his two seasons.

The NFL commissioner, making a tour of training camps, raved about Detroit Lions coach Rod Marinelli and his players after visiting them Thursday. He spoke to them mostly about their responsibilities as players. As soon as Goodell started taking questions during a news conference, however, he was asked about Vick.
