The Minnesota Wild signed free agent center Serge Payer to a one-year contract on Monday. Payer spent most of last season in the minors with Birmingham of the AHL. A former NHL player and assistant coach who ran an illegal sports gambling ring won’t serve jail time despite international headlines linking the case to hockey’s biggest star.
