Denver Broncos linebacker Warrick Holdman has been advised by doctors not to play football for three months after suffering a spinal cord concussion in a collision with a teammate last week. Holdman was injured on Aug. 2 when he was trying to tackle running back Mike Bell, who lowered his left shoulder and struck the 243-pound linebacker in his helmet.

Thrust into the starting quarterback job while Vick is away from the team and facing federal dogfighting charges, Harrington led one scoring drive in his three series Friday night in a 31-16 loss to the New York Jets in the preseason opener for both teams.

It was an experience Bobby Engram could have done without. The Seahawks’ dependable receiver caught four passes in his return to Chicago last Oct. 1, playing against the team he spent five seasons with after coming out of Penn State in 1996. Then during Seattle’s bye, “I slept, literally, that whole week,” Engram said.
A grateful city said goodbye to Bill Walsh on Friday by making sure his name will stay forever linked to the field at Candlestick Park. Hundreds gathered there to celebrate Walsh, who died of leukemia on July 30 at 75. Friday’s service included a gospel choir singing “Amazing Graze” and a video recounting Walsh’s achievements.
