On Thursday, Cal men's basketball fell to No. 24 UCLA at home by a final score of 61-57. UCLA redshirt junior forward Cody Riley paced the Bruins with 13 points and 6 rebounds while Cal senior forward Grant Anticevich went off for 21 points on 8-11 shooting from the field and 5-5 shooting from 3-point range. UCLA improves to 12-2 overall and 8-0 in the Pac-12 while Cal falls to 7-9 overall and 2-7 in the Pac-12.
Six days after a confidence-shaking loss to UCLA left Kentucky fans questioning whether this year’s squad would ever reach the heights previous John Calipari teams have, the Wildcats restored faith with by far their finest performance this season. Defense should be a strength for a Kentucky team rife with length and athleticism at every position, but prior to Friday, the young Wildcats had not shown the requisite commitment at that end of the floor.
