Witness in murder of CP3’s grandfather recants

The Orlando Magic and wing Terrence Ross are working towards a buyout. The Dallas Mavericks are the frontrunners to sign Ross when he clears waivers from Orlando.

Ross has seen his playing time drastically reduced this season with the Magic. In 42 games, he’s averaged 8.0 points on 43.1% shooting from the field, including 38.1% on three-pointers.

Ross will likely give back a portion of his $11.5 million salary for this season. If Ross signs with the Mavericks, the max they can offer him is a prorated veteran minimum contract.

The front office of the Atlanta Hawks has “the green light from ownership to do whatever it wants to with the roster, which includes considering trade opportunities involving All-Star point guard Trae Young,” sources tell Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.

Travis Schlenk exited the front office in December and the decision-makers are now Landry Fields, Kyle Korver and Quin Snyder. While negotiating his contract to become head coach of the Hawks, Snyder demanded and now wields substantial influence over personnel decisions.

Young is on Year 1 of a five-year, $215 million contract extension he signed during the 2021 offseason.

While Young is a talented on-ball player and would raise the floor on offense of any team in the league, he drifts off-ball and is also one of the NBA’s biggest liabilities on defense.

The more likely scenario than a Young trade this offseason is that the Hawks retool around him and Dejounte Murray.

The Dallas Mavericks gave up a lot to acquire Kyrie Irving, who will be a free agent this offseason. The Mavericks hope to keep Irving though it remains to be seen if they will be on the same page on a contract.

“We want to keep him,” said Mark Cuban of Irving.

Cuban also said the Mavericks acquired Irving with “the long-term” in mind.
