Suns Finding Deandre Ayton’s Trade Market ‘Lean’, Preparing For Possibility He Stays

The Phoenix Suns have been expected to explore the trade market for Deandre Ayton this offseason, but they have reportedly struggled to find any deals to their liking.

“I think the hard part for Phoenix right now is DeAndre Ayton’s market is lean,” said Adrian Wojnarowski on the Ryen Russillo Podcast. “They have to be prepared that they’re going to have Deandre Ayton back.”

The Suns are also at a crossroads with Chris Paul as they look to put more depth around Devin Booker and Kevin Durant. Their inability to trade Ayton in a way that is going to upgrade their roster limits what they might be able to do with Paul.

“They’ve gone through the marketplace and I don’t think there is an obvious deal for Deandre Ayton out there,” added Wojnarowski.

The Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat have reportedly had very little dialogue on a Damian Lillard trade despite his trade request coming on July 1st.

The expectation among those close to the situation is that talks could pick up once training camp gets closer.

The Blazers have not been in a rush to deal Lillard as they hope for an improved offer, but bringing him into camp and potentially the preseason is viewed by some as a risk.

Blazers general manager Joe Cronin went on the record in July indicating that a Lillard trade could “take months.”
