Report: Kobe Bryant pilot may have been disoriented in fog

The pilot of the helicopter that crashed in thick fog, killing Kobe Bryant and seven other passengers, reported he was climbing when he actually was heading for the ground, federal investigators said in documents released Wednesday. Ara Zobayan radioed to air traffic controllers that he was climbing to 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) to get above clouds on Jan. 26 when, in fact, the chopper was plunging toward a hillside where it crashed northwest of Los Angeles, killing all nine people aboard. The report by the National Transportation Safety Board said Zobayan may have ”misperceived” the angles at which he was descending and banking, which can happen when a pilot becomes disoriented in low visibility.

UConn defeated South Carolina 82-59 to win its 12th NCAA women’s national title in program history on Sunday.

Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong both scored 24 points, with Paige Bueckers finishing with 17 points.

“As a great teammate, a great leader. I think those are the two most important things to me, just being somebody that people love to play with, make their teammates better, wears a UConn jersey with pride,” said Bueckers when asked how she wanted to be remembered at UConn.

Bueckers is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming WNBA draft.

It has been nine years since UConn won a national title. The team, which last lost on February 6, finished the season 37-3.

Tessa Johnson lead South Carolina with 10 points.

South Carolina finished the year with a 35-4 record.
