Pistons Granted $5.3M Disabled Player Exception

The Detroit Pistons have been granted a disabled player exception for Cade Cunningham. The DPE is worth $5,276,400 and will be available for Detroit to use through March 10 of this season.

The Pistons were eligible to apply for the DPE, as it’s very likely Cunningham will miss the remainder of this season. Cunningham underwent surgery on his left leg in mid-December. The second-year guard had been having pain in his left shin, and the surgery was done to promote healing of a stress fracture.

Cunningham appeared in just 12 games in his second season. The former number one overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft is expected to make a full recovery and to be ready for the start of next season.
