NBA pushes plan to reopen facilities until May 8 at earliest

The NBA has pushed back plans that would allow teams to reopen their practice facilities for at least one week, and cautioned that the new target is far from set in stone. The earliest that teams can reopen for voluntary player workouts is now May 8, the NBA said Monday – and that would only be the case in places where local and state laws made such a move permissible. Other restrictions when facilities reopen will include a limit of four players at a facility at any time, no group activities will be permitted and no head coaches or assistant coaches can be involved in the workouts.

Chris Paul and the Golden State Warriors have agreed to move back his $30 million guarantee date to the start of free agency on Sunday, June 30th. The deadline was originally on Friday.

This decision allows the Warriors to continue to explore trade possibilities such as a deal for Paul George. The Warriors are known to have “legitimate interest” in trading for George, who has until Saturday to opt-in to his contract for 24-25.

If Paul is traded, his $30 million contract becomes guaranteed. If Paul becomes a free agent, his salary for the 24-25 season will surely be far lower than that amount after averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 26.4 minutes over 58 games with the Warriors.

Paul is represented by Steven Heumann and Ty Sullivan of CAA. George also has a CAA agent in Aaron Mintz.
