Grizzlies Discuss Marcus Smart Trade

The Memphis Grizzlies have included Marcus Smart in trade discussions in recent weeks, sources tell Tim Bontemps. Smart has played in just 38 games over the past two seasons due to a myriad of injuries.

The Grizzlies have seen Jaylen Wells, GG Jackson and Vince Williams Jr. emerge during the absence of Smart, who is currently out with a finger injury. Smart could be considered helpful for another playoff team looking to improve their defense.

By clearing Smart’s $21.6 million salary for 25-26, they will open up space on a Jaren Jackson Jr. contract extension and also re-sign Santi Aldama.

Caitlin Clark Passes Pete Maravich For Scoring RecordCaitlin Clark Passes Pete Maravich For Scoring Record

Caitlin Clark has joked about being nicknamed “Ponytail Pete” in recognition of how her game resembles that of “Pistol Pete” Maravich.

On Sunday in her last regular-season home game, the Iowa star passed the LSU and NBA legend for the most points scored by a Division I basketball player, men’s or women’s.

On senior day at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Clark entered the game against Big Ten regular-season champion Ohio State needing 18 points to pass Maravich, who scored 3,667 points in his three seasons at LSU from 1967 to 1970.

She did that in the first half and then finished the game with 35 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds in No. 6 Iowa’s 93-83 victory over No. 2 Ohio State.

Thunder Loom As Threat To Sign Isaiah HartensteinThunder Loom As Threat To Sign Isaiah Hartenstein

The Oklahoma City Thunder are in the market for a center in free agency. That search has them focused on unrestricted free agent Isaiah Hartenstein of the New York Knicks.

The Knicks have Early Bird rights for Hartenstein, which limits them to offering him a starting salary around $17 million for next season. The Thunder project to have $35 million in cap space to offer a free agent.

One source said Oklahoma City’s interest in Hartenstein is “real.” A suggested path could be to offer Hartenstein a larger initial salary than New York can, but on a short-term deal of two years. That would leave the Thunder with flexibility moving forward, in case the signing didn’t work out.
