Longtime agent Rob Pelinka was formally hired as the Los Angeles Lakers’ new general manager on Tuesday. Pelinka got the job shortly after Lakers owner Jeanie Buss fired GM Mitch Kupchak and her brother, Jim, as the club’s top basketball executives last month. The team waited to announce the hiring until Pelinka complied with NBA rules against conflicts of interest, in part by transferring responsibility for his clients to other agents in his firm, Landmark Sports Agency.

JJ Redick Not Sure LeBron James Should Play All 82 GamesJJ Redick Not Sure LeBron James Should Play All 82 Games

Following the Los Angeles Lakers loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, discussion turned to LeBron James. Specifically, there were questions if James is tired after playing in all 21 games so far this season. James has a stated goal of playing all 82 games. That’s not something Lakers coach JJ Redick is sure he agrees with.

“I don’t know that’s in the best interest of him and us if he does that, but if he’s feeling well and feeling good, then he should play,” Redick said. “But we obviously want to manage that as best we can.”

As for James, he said he’s not moving off his goal…yet.

“That’s a goal, but we’ll see,” James said. “It’s something I ain’t discussing right now.”

After a six-game win streak to start November, the Lakers have dropped five of their last seven games. Los Angeles has fallen to eighth place in the Western Conference over that stretch of games.
