Jazz Looking To Trade Veterans Before DeadlineJazz Looking To Trade Veterans Before Deadline

In the past two seasons, the Utah Jazz have waited until closer to the trade deadline to pivot towards draft position. That pivot each season was aided by trading away veteran players. This season, the Jazz won’t need to pivot, but the team is still likely to move some veteran players again.

Vets that Utah could move include John Collins, Jordan Clarkson and Collin Sexton. All three players have a second year remaining on their deals beyond this year. But all three are on reasonable contracts for the 2025-26 season.

The Jazz are prioritizing draft position in a loaded 2025 NBA Draft, one in which Utah should have multiple draft picks. The team is also still looking to build around Lauri Markkanen, who cannot be traded this season due to a six-month restriction that doesn’t expire until after the trade deadline has passed.

Dejounte Murray Would Welcome Trade Back To SpursDejounte Murray Would Welcome Trade Back To Spurs

During the Atlanta Hawks game against the San Antonio Spurs, TNT sideline reporter Dennis Scott shared some information from a chat with Hawks guard Dejounte Murray. One of the topics they discussed was a rumor that the Spurs could try to reacquire Murray.

When asked about the Spurs rumor, Scott said Murray told him: “Pop (Spurs coach Gregg Popovich) is like a father to me, I would welcome that. But right now, I’m a Hawk, I’m going to stay professional and play the right way.”

Scott shared Murray’s approach to the trade rumors is the standard one most NBA veterans take.

“It’s part of the business, I’m going to stay professional and be a good teammate,” Murray told Scott.

The Hawks acquired Murray from the Spurs ahead of the 2022-23 season. Atlanta traded Danilo Gallinari, three first-round picks and a first-round pick swap for Murray and Jock Landale. This offseason, the Hawks signed Murray to a four-year, $114 million contract extension that will kick in next season.
