The Red Sox became the first MLB team to clinch a postseason berth this season as Brock Holt’s clutch pinch-hit homer in the seventh inning lifted them to a 7-2 win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday night at Fenway Park. Steve Pearce plated Boston’s first run with an RBI triple in the seventh, which was followed by Holt’s home run. The Sox padded their lead with three more runs in the eighth. Boston ace Chris Sale returned from the disabled list and pitched a scoreless inning to open the game. Toronto starter Ryan Borucki allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings.
