The St. Louis Cardinals released left-handed pitcher Mike Maroth on Thursday. Maroth went 0-5 with a 10.66 ERA in 14 appearances. He also spent time on the disabled list with elbow injuries. In June, the Cardinals acquired him from Detroit for cash and a player to be named later to plug a hole in an injury-plagued pitching staff.
