The person spoke to Sports Betting News on condition of anonymity because the Marlins have not commented publicly on the negotiations.

Cleveland Indians closer Joe Borowski, right, and catcher Kelly Shoppach celebrate their 11-8 win over the Detroit Tigers in a baseball game Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007 in Detroit. Borowski relieved with two on in the ninth and retired Carlos Guillen before striking out Ivan Rodriguez on a 3-2 pitch for his 35th save in 40 chances.

Before the game, Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge explained that he put Franklin Gutierrez in the lineup to create more offense. Gutierrez did just that, hitting a three-run homer to help Cleveland rebound from a tough loss and beat the Detroit Tigers 11-8 on Wednesday night. Gutierrez also doubled to start a four-run rally in the fourth inning.
