Street Sense wins Travers Stakes

Tim Doocy, filling in for Going Ballistic’s injured regular rider, Cliff Berry, guided the 3-year-old to a commanding 3-length win over Reporting for Duty in the $300,000 Centennial Oklahoma Derby, the most lucrative race for thoroughbreds at Remington Park.

The day after winning a big stakes race in 2005, Greg’s Gold turned up in his barn with a bowed tendon — the kind of injury that depresses owners and puts expensive thoroughbreds out to pasture forever. Not this time. Using stem cells harvested from his own fat to repair his right front tendon, Greg’s Gold returned to racing at the highest level.

Justify’s Triple Crown victory Saturday was worth an additional $15 million, sources told ESPN, pushing the value of the horse’s breeding rights to a record $75 million.
