Argentine-bred Masterpiece raced to his first victory in eight starts in the United States, beating Warrior Song by a length Thursday in the $89,955 Harry F. Brubaker Handicap at Del Mar. Ridden by apprentice Alonso Quinonez, Masterpiece covered 1 1-16 miles on the turf course in 1:40.43 and paid $30.20, $11 and $5.
There were nine other stakes on the 2017 Belmont undercard, including the Manhattan Handicap (G1), Just a Game Stakes (G1), Metropolitan Handicap (G1), Acorn Stakes (G1), and Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) won by Ascend, Antonoe, Mor Spirit, Abel Tasman, and Songbird.
