Concrete Rose romps in the Saratoga Oaks Invitational

Trainer Richard Dutrow, Jr, acknowledges to “taking a shot” with Diamond Stripes in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic when an easier spot existed in the $1 million Dirt Mile. The Classic is the richest of the 11 Breeders’ Cup races spread over Friday and Saturday at Monmouth Park. “Chances like this don’t come along every day,” said Dutrow, who won the 2005 Classic with Saint Liam.

Dixie Chatter upset Salute the Sarge in the $250,000 Norfolk Stakes for 2-year-olds at Santa Anita on Sunday. Ridden by Richard Migliore, the 5-2 second choice covered 1 1/16 miles over Santa Anita’s new Cushion Track in 1:42.64. Dixie Chatter paid $7.80, $3.80 and $3. Salute the Sarge returned $3.20 and $2.60, and Shore Do paid $3.40 to show.
