Breeders’ Cup horses clean in random blood tests

The New Jersey Racing Commission reported Wednesday that random blood tests of Breeders’ Cup horses competing at Monmouth Park this weekend were negative. The NJRC, with the cooperation of racing commissions across the country and in Europe, conducted a random sampling of horses pre-entered on Oct. 15 for the 11 Breeders’ Cup races.

Ridden by Mike Smith, the Irish-bred gelding covered 1 1-8 miles over a damp turf course in 1:46.40 and paid $22.60, $11.40 and $6.80. Ten a Penny returned $8.60 and $5.60. Betting favorite Stoneside paid $3 to show.
