Winner’s Bag: Tyson Alexander, Veritex Bank Championship

Tyson Alexander earned his first Korn Ferry Tour title Sunday at the Veritex Bank Championship, carding a final-round, 7-under 64 at Texas Rangers GC for a one-stroke victory over Theo Humphrey at 23-under total. Alexander, a 12th-year pro out of the University of Florida, trailed Humphrey by five strokes entering the final round. After a 3-under opening nine, he surged into the conversation with three consecutive birdies to begin the final nine, and an up-and-down birdie at the short par-4 16th proved the ultimate difference. With the victory, Alexander moves to No. 31 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List as he eyes his first PGA TOUR card via the 2020-21 combined season. “The creativity around the greens,” reflected Alexander of a key to success this week in Arlington, Texas. “There are a lot of options. You can run it up there, you can flop it up there … there are just options, and I like that.” Here’s what was in Alexander’s bag this week in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Winner’s Bag: Jhonattan Vegas, RBC Canadian OpenWinner’s Bag: Jhonattan Vegas, RBC Canadian Open

Coming off his fifth consecutive missed cut, Jhonattan Vegas went back to his trusty Mizuno MP-4 muscleback irons at the RBC Canadian Open. Vegas had been using a set of MP-18 prototype blades since the Shell Houston Open but felt a change could do him some good. The three-time PGA TOUR winner had the irons shipped from his home to Glen Abbey Golf Club and tested them early in the week before making the switch. Vegas hit 75 percent of his greens in regulation and ranked fifth in strokes gained: approach the green (plus 7.139) on his way to back-to-back wins in Canada. Vegas used the MP-4 8-iron to hit the defining shot of the tournament from a fairway bunker on the first playoff hole that clipped the lip and rolled just off the back of the green. Vegas would get up-and-down for birdie to defeat Charley Hoffman. Here’s a look at Vegas’ entire equipment setup. Open Championship organizers don’t want anybody calling it ‘The British Open’ anymore and it is causing more confusion than everOpen Championship organizers don’t want anybody calling it ‘The British Open’ anymore and it is causing more confusion than ever

If you’re unsure of what to call this week’s major golf tournament, that’s okay — some of the game’s top broadcasters aren’t entirely clear on the matter either. The Open Championship is the oldest of golf’s four majors, and it also has the most confusing name. “The Open Championship” is its official label, but many have long referred to it as the British Open, drawing the ire of countless Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews members along the way. Furthermore, tournament organizers have begun to brand the tournament as simply “The Open,” its most ambiguous moniker yet. Most British fans have always dismissed the notion that there is a “British” Open, and they’ve only become more militant
