Finau, Champ FaceTime 2020 QBE Shootout Honored FighterFinau, Champ FaceTime 2020 QBE Shootout Honored Fighter

CureSearch for Children's Cancer is the annual QBE Shootout's primary charitable beneficiary. Since 1989, the QBE Shootout has raised more than $14 million for CureSearch and other charitable causes. The national non-profit foundation accelerates the search for cures for children's cancer by driving innovation, transcending research barriers and solving the field's most challenging problems. This year, the 2020 QBE Shootout's chosen Honored Fighter from CureSearch is Peyton Armstrong. Peyton had been diagnosed with high-risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at only 10 years old. At an early age, Peyton had undergone multiple harsh treatments, misdiagnoses and unexpected surgeries on his long road to recovery. Now, at 20 years old, Peyton is in remission and is celebrated as one of cancer's toughest survivors. Cancer, to say the least, was no easy obstacle for Peyton to overcome, along with the many others that have a similar story. Peyton's mother, Jess, wanted to ensure her son was safe in any environment he was in while going through his recovery from cancer. That's why the family created "Peyton's Potion" - a safe, effective, uplifting and sustainable multipurpose cleaner. The "potion" helps to mitigate the smells of treatments that might otherwise make patients, such as Peyton, nauseous and helps to ensure patients are not susceptible to other bacteria in rooms. Peyton and his family now run the business together, hoping to help other patients feel just as safe as he did while undergoing treatments and surgeries. As the chosen Honored Fighter, the participant is typically brought on-site to the tournament for a VIP experience, similar to 2018's Honored Fighter, Joseph Campione. Due to the pandemic, Peyton was a virtual Honored Fighter for this year, sharing his experiences through calls and recorded videos. Graciously, the tournament has given Peyton the opportunity to come on-site next year to the 2021 QBE Shootout to have the full experience. Although some of his opportunities as an Honored Fighter will be delayed until then, Peyton had the chance to FaceTime two PGA TOUR players, Tony Finau and Cameron Champ. Both Finau and Champ, after their practice round at the QBE Shootout, took the time to reach out to Peyton and chat both about Peyton's Potion and him being the 2020 Honored Fighter. "We look forward to seeing you out on-site next year at the 2021 QBE Shootout," said Finau and Champ. "It was so fun getting to talk to Finau and Champ," said Peyton. "They were really nice guys who I look up to. I hope I get to meet them in person one day." Peyton is now a sophomore at Utah Valley University and is studying Mechanical Engineering while helping to run the family business, Peyton's Potion. More about Peyton and Peyton's Potion Peyton's Potion is a vehicle for Peyton to use his experience overcoming childhood cancer to help other children going through the same thing. Peyton is a mentor to other children with cancer, speaking at schools and community events, sharing his story and raising awareness. His determination and strength are an inspiration to other children overcoming childhood cancer and to all of us as we are presented with challenges in our lives. CureSearch for Children's Cancer is a 501(c)3 U.S.-based non-profit foundation that accelerates the search for cures for children's cancer by driving innovation, overcoming research barriers and solving the field's most challenging problems. Rose Ladies cancelled due to wildfire at WentworthRose Ladies cancelled due to wildfire at Wentworth

The Rose Ladies Series Grand Final has been cut short because of the wildfire near Wentworth, with Charley Hull announced as the Order of Merit winner. The famed West course in Surrey was evacuated during Friday’s third and last round after fire spread from Chobham Common, close to the 10th hole. Series organisers have been unable to find an alternative date and venue due to the resumption of the Ladies European Tour with the Scottish Open next week. As a result the tournament reverts to 36 holes, which were played on Wednesday and Thursday at North Hants and Berkshire. Alice Hewson, a rookie this year on the Ladies European Tour, who led going into Friday, has been declared the winner of the Grand Final Tournament, picking up a cheque for £10,000. As Order of Merit winner Hull won £20,000, which was sponsored by American Golf. Kate Rose — who along with husband Justin founded the series two months ago having read an interview in Telegraph Sport with LET professional Liz Young who was organising a tournament due to the lack of competitive golf for English female golfers this summer — presented the prizes behind closed doors at Wentworth this morning. The Roses, along with sponsors American Golf and Computacenter, had paid accommodation costs for players last night after play was provisionally suspended until 9.30am this morning. However, the wildfire blazed through the night, causing nearby homes to be evacuated, and, after meetings with the emergency services, it was decided that course had to remain closed on Saturday.

Ben Martin takes two-shot lead at Corales Puntacana ChampionshipBen Martin takes two-shot lead at Corales Puntacana Championship

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Ben Martin shot his second straight 6-under 66 on Friday to double his lead to two strokes in the PGA TOUR’s Corales Puntacana Championship. RELATED: Leaderboard | WGC-Match Play Day 3 Match Recaps Martin had four birdies in a late five-hole stretch, finishing the afternoon round on the front nine at breezy Corales Golf Course. “I think the course was playing a little easier,” Martin said. “The wind was up yesterday morning more than it was this afternoon. But it was starting to dry out some in the afternoon, so a little give and take there.” He began the late run with a birdie on the par-5 fourth and added three more on the par-4 sixth, par-5 seventh and par-4 eighth. He also started fast, birdieing the first three holes. “I’ve just been in a great mindset,” Martin said. I think more than anything, my swing feels in a good place, I’m rolling it nice. So everything kind of feels easy and I’m not putting too much pressure on myself and making some birdies when I have chances, but not trying to do too much.” The 34-year-old former Clemson player has made only one other PGA TOUR start this year, missing the cut in Puerto Rico with rounds of 78 and 70. He won the 2014 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open for his lone PGA TOUR title. “Not having a great status, I think that motivated me to get back out,” Martin said. “I would say over the last six months sort of I’ve been working harder, working smarter than I have in the past four or five years.” Alex Smalley was second at 10 under after a 65. The TOUR rookie from Duke countered an opening double bogey with an eagle on No. 4 and closed with birdies on Nos. 7 and 9. On his first hole, his mother helped him by finding his ball in a bush. “Not how I wanted to start, not super happy, but she saved me a good 190-yard walk,” Smalley said. Chad Ramey (65) and Adam Schenk (68) were 9 under. Schenk also eagled the fourth. He advanced to the weekend for the third time in his last 10 starts. “Just play your game and just worry about yourself,” Schenk said. “I look at handling 18 situations, 18 holes and just handle each situation you get on every hole just to the best of your ability and kind of block out the rest.” Graeme McDowell, the 2019 winner, was 8 under after his second 68. He birdied four of his last five holes. “Key finish to get my momentum back moving into the weekend,” McDowell said. “Continuing to feel very comfortable, like the way the greens are setting up, driving it really well and just got to keep doing more of the same really.” Nate Lashley was 7 under after a 68. Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark, the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 77 in the world, missed the cut by a stroke with rounds of 73 and 71. His twin brother, Rasmus, was 4 under after a 67. The tournament is being played opposite the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event in Austin, Texas. The winner will be exempt into the PGA Championship. Defending champion Joel Dahmen withdrew because of illness. He opened with a 71.
