TOUR Championship’s third round will resume Sunday

ATLANTA – The final day of the PGA TOUR season will feature extra golf. The TOUR Championship’s weather-delayed third round will resume at 9:45 a.m. Sunday with the final twosome of Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele on East Lake’s 13th hole. The third round was suspended at 6:36 p.m. Saturday because of lightning and did not resume. Fourteen players in the 29-man field will complete their third round Sunday morning. The fourth round will begin at 11:16 a.m. “We have plenty of time tomorrow. We have plenty of daylight tomorrow,” said Mark Dusbabek of the PGA TOUR’s rules team. “It will give us time to finish, have a little break and start with round four at 11:16.” Play of the third round at the TOUR Championship will resume Sunday morning at 9:45am and air on GOLF Channel until conclusion. Sunday’s final round airtimes remain unchanged. Scheffler is 19 under par, one shot ahead of Schauffele. Sungjae Im is in third place, three shots off the lead, and Rory McIlroy, who’s trying to become the first three-time winner of the FedExCup is in fourth place at 15 under par. Im is on the par-3 15th, while McIlroy has two holes remaining. Four players –Patrick Cantlay, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Sepp Straka – are tied for fifth, five back. There also was a 58-minute delay for lightning at 1:27 p.m. Saturday. That pushed back the third round’s last groups back an hour. Scheffler and Schauffele teed off in the final group off at 4 p.m. Hideki Matsuyama shot 63, the low score among players who completed the third round. He is the leader in the clubhouse at 13 under par. Scheffler has a TOUR-high four wins this season, including the Masters, while Schauffele won the TOUR Championship five years ago but is seeking his first FedExCup after finishing second in both 2019 and 2020.

Chad Ramey wins Corales Puntacana ChampionshipChad Ramey wins Corales Puntacana Championship

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic (AP) — Chad Ramey won the windswept Corales Puntacana Championship on Sunday for his first PGA TOUR title, beating Ben Martin and Alex Smalley by a stroke. RELATED: Final leaderboard Ramey closed with a 5-under 67, completing a two-putt par on the par-4 18th after Martin missed a 6-foot birdie try that would have forced a playoff. “It was honestly like I always thought it would be,” Ramey said. “It was very stressful, very nerve-wracking coming down the stretch, but I just grinded it out, kind of stuck to my process, stayed within myself and pulled it out.” Two strokes behind Martin entering the round, Ramey made four straight birdies on Nos. 13-16 to take the lead and parred the par-3 17th at Corales Golf Course. “I’ve been rolling the putter good all day, they just hadn’t been going in,” Ramey said. “I was kind of all around the hole on the front side. I didn’t change a thing, I didn’t do anything different. They just started going in.” With the tournament played opposite the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play event in Austin, Texas, Ramey earned 300 FedExCup points. The 29-year-old from Mississippi finished at 17-under 271. “I think it will take maybe a day or two to sink in,” Ramey said. “Everything’s pretty surreal, happening pretty fast, but I’m definitely excited.” Martin, the leader after each of the first three rounds, closed with a 70. The 2014 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open winner for his lone PGA TOUR title, Martin was making only his second PGA TOUR start of the year. “That was obviously difficult,” Martin said. “I’ve won out here before, won on the Korn Ferry, runner-up in the U.S. Am, but I guess maybe I wanted this one a lot more. I don’t think I’ve ever been this emotional about golf, so this is a first. I guess, to me, that’s a good thing. Means I competed hard and it obviously stung. Hit two such good shots into 18 to have such a good opportunity and then not capitalize I guess is the most difficult part.” Smalley finished with a 67. The TOUR rookie from Duke had his best PGA TOUR finish. “Successful week,” Smalley said. “Kind of stings a little bit to come up a shot short. Left my 20-footer on the last 6 inches short right in the middle. Whatever’s meant to be is meant to be, so I take a lot of positives from this week.” Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuela shot a 68 to tie for fourth with Cameron Percy (67) at 15 under. Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgaard (67) was 14 under. Twin brother Nicolai, the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 77, missed the cut.

Romo returns to PGA TOUR’s Corales Puntacana Resort & Club ChampionshipRomo returns to PGA TOUR’s Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – Tony Romo, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current lead analyst for the NFL ON CBS, will compete on a sponsor exemption for the second consecutive year in the PGA TOUR’s Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship (March 28-31, 2019) in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The 2019 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship will mark the second time Romo will compete as an individual against PGA TOUR professionals in the same competition. Playing as an amateur, Romo will look to make the cut for the first time in his second official PGA TOUR start. “Golf has been a passion of mine throughout my life, giving me another athletic outlet to hone my skills and compete,â€ said Romo. “The opportunity to compete at the highest levels of golf, the PGA TOUR event, was a dream come true for me. I’m thankful to the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship for inviting me to join them once again this year, and I’m excited at the chance to compete against the best of the best.â€ Since Romo competed in the inaugural Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in 2018, he won two golf tournaments in the summer of 2018, including the American Century Championship in Nevada. “It was an honor to have Tony Romo to join us for our inaugural year, and we are delighted that he has accepted our offer to play in the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship again this year,â€ said Grupo Puntacana Founder and Chairman Frank Rainieri. “Tony continues to grow and achieve at golf just as he rose to greatness during his football career. It’s going to be exciting to watch him play Corales again.â€ Romo, 38, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cowboys in 2003 after playing collegiately at Eastern Illinois University. Beginning his career as a holder, Romo became the Cowboys’ starting quarterback during the 2006 season. Serving as the team’s primary starter from 2006 to 2015, he guided the Cowboys to four postseason appearances and was named to the Pro Bowl four times. Romo retired after the 2016 season and immediately was hired by CBS Sports to become the lead analyst for the NFL ON CBS, teaming with Jim Nantz in the broadcast booth. Romo holds several Cowboys team records, including passing touchdowns, passing yards, most games with at least 300 passing yards and games with three or more touchdown passes. The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship is in its second year on the PGA TOUR schedule, previously having a two-year run as a Web.com Tour event. The event, which was won by Brice Garnett in 2018, offers a $3,000,000 purse, 300 FedExCup points and is broadcast on the Golf Channel.
