It’s the first time he’s connected at least four paydays since ripping off seven straight across the holiday break in late 2019. He’s also perfect in three trips to County Club of Jackson with a T20 in 2018 and a T12 last year. Adam Schenk (+8000) … He pulled through to save his job and qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs with a pair of late T4s, so there’s an argument that he has as much momentum as the Korn Ferry Tour graduates. Opened 2021-22 with a T51 at the Fortinet Championship, so the seal already has been broken to reach the Playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. Figures to tack on at the Sanderson Farms Championship where he’s 4-for-4 with a T7 in 2018. All 16 of his scores here have been par or better. Luke List (+8000) … He runs red-hot and ice-cold on his putter, this we know. And even when it’s the latter, he still can rise into contention, as he did finishing 65th in Strokes Gained: Putting en route to a T5 at the Barbasol Championship two months ago. It’s also happened at the Country Club of Jackson where he was a co-runner-up in 2016 and has miss two cuts in four trips. So, the angle at buying in isn’t about hoping to avoid the pitfalls, it’s that he’s put four rounds together at all recently and on this track, so there’s enough evidence not to dismiss outright. Finished last season at 36th in greens hit, 23rd in SG: Tee-to-Green and T21 in par-scoring. Matthias Schwab (+8000) … After popping for a pair of top fives on the PGA TOUR in 2019-20, he qualified for the 2021 Korn Ferry Tour Finals via the non-member conduit. It was a good thing because he went just 1-for-4 during the 2020-21 season and directed the majority of his focus on the European Tour. Good form on the Austrian’s home circuit translated into a T4-64th-T8 blitz in the KFT Finals and his first PGA TOUR card. He was the only rookie not to open at the Fortinet Championship. so as to rest following a T12 at the BMW PGA Championship immediately following the KFT Finals. Now he resets and shifts his attention forward. Former Vanderbilt teammate John Augenstein also is in the field via his top 10 at Silverado two weeks ago. David Lipsky (+10000) … He’s another rookie with worldly experience that includes a pair of wins on the European Tour, so this stage won’t feel as big to the 33-year-old as it will to most others in his class. Mito Pereira paced it at the Fortinet with a solo third, but Lipsky was the rookie runner-up with a T22. For the week, he ranked T7 in fairways hit, seventh in total driving, T10 in greens hit, T4 in proximity and ninth in Strokes Gained: Putting. A steady diet of leaderboard performances on the 2020-21 Korn Ferry Tour yielded a win and three seconds among seven top 10s. Erin, Wis. – The United States Golf Association has implemented several changes to procedures to ensure another rules fiasco does not affect this week’s U.S. Open at Erin Hills. A year after eventual champion Dustin Johnson was embroiled in a final round rules drama the governing body has acted decisively. Johnson was initially cleared of causing his ball to move on the green early in his final round at Oakmont last year before being told the issue would come under further review and a penalty was likely. As such he played the final holes unsure of exactly how big his lead was but ultimately prevailed by three shots (a one-shot penalty was enforced post-round) to claim his first major championship. The uncertainty and resulting uproar prompted several changes. “After last year’s U.S. Open we made the commitment to review all of our championships and rules and related protocols and procedures and we’ve done that,â€� Senior Managing Director of Championships & Governance John Bodenhamer said. “Our focus over those months has primarily been three things. To expedite our ruling process to ensure that we’re more timely in our rulings. To be decisive in our decision making. And to more effectively communicate to the players and to all.â€� Steps to make it happen include:     • The ability to immediately mobilize their five person rules committee who will now be in close communication with each other at all times.     • The identification of Thomas Pagel, the senior director of rules, as the “white hat refereeâ€� who can make instantaneous decisions that will be deemed final.     • The enhanced use of technology with four on course video review locations and tablets in the hands of the committee to get quick access to vision if needed.     • The removal of walking rules officials for the first time since 1991, instead moving to static model whereby two officials will be stationed at each hole, giving them every opportunity to be ready for all possible occurrences in their jurisdiction.     • The adoption of the local rule introduced to golf back in December whereby a ball or ball marker that’s accidentally moved on a putting green can be replaced without penalty.     • And the adoption of the new decision from April that says the naked eye and reasonable judgment standards will be leaned on when it comes to reviewing issues. “These and other steps that we’ve implemented we think will allow us to really expedite our rule-making process and be decisive in our communications, which were two things that perhaps we fell a little bit short last year,â€� Bodenhamer continued. “But we’re committed this year to expedite it and we’re excited about it. Our main goal is for this week to be about the players and their journey to the final round. They’re the story of this championship. As such, we are very much looking forward to an exciting and great 117th U.S. Open”

After a year off as the new schedule took shape the Houston Open returns in a new time slot in the expanded fall portion of the FedExCup after spending significant time as the precursor to the Masters. But it still seems like yesterday a fist pounding Ian Poulter took out a young Beau Hossler in a pulsating playoff. Perhaps this time the heroics will fall to his European teammate Henrik Stenson who makes his 2019-20 season debut. RELATED: Featured Groups, tee times | Power Rankings THE FLYOVER The 488-yard par-4 18th has provided plenty of drama over the years as one of the most difficult finishing holes on TOUR. It was the ninth hardest finishing hole in 2018 (4.223) – the last time we were at the Golf Club of Houston – primarily because of the water down the entire left side and the bunkers on the right. There is no faking it here. If you want to win this tournament you need to step up and hit good shots or you open the door for others. LANDING ZONE The 338-yard par-4 12th hole provides players with a risk-reward opportunity as they look to make a run. Of course laying up with iron is always an option given the water down the right side and the bunkers on the left but those who thread the needle can certainly find the putting surface and set up an eagle chance. This is the third time the Houston Open will be played in the fall. The first time was in November 1966 when Arnold Palmer shot a final round 69 to take the prize. The other was in October 1991 when Fulton Allem shot 66 to overtake a handful of challengers, including Tom Kite. While the Houston Open has been played at the Golf Club of Houston since 2003, the Tournament Course has served as the Host Course since 2006. Beginning in 2020, the tournament will be played at Memorial Park, a city-owned park in downtown Houston.
