Tiger Woods’ PopStroke to open in Houston

Tiger Woods’ revolutionary state-of-the-art entertainment complex PopStroke is set to reveal its first location outside of Florida next week with the 82-time PGA TOUR winner taking to Twitter on Tuesday to confirm the new Houston, Texas location will open on December 16. The complex is a modern take on miniature golf that features two 18-hole putting courses designed by Woods’ TGR Design team along with a restaurant, full-service bar and family-friendly amenities. The Houston PopStroke location will be the fifth fully operational venue, with the first opening in Port St. Lucie, Florida earlier this year and others already running in Fort Meyers, Sarasota and Orlando. Future plans have locations opening in Glendale and Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as Tampa and Delray, Florida, both scheduled for 2023. “Putting is a universal part of golf that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels,” Woods stated in a press release last year. “It has been rewarding to see the broad and diverse group of guests enjoying their experience at PopStroke, and I look forward to seeing players make those long putts in locations throughout the South and Southwest. Each new location will have a different course design and layout giving players unique putting challenges as they travel across the country.” Gone are the windmills and animatronics of old, replaced by brutal bunkers, swerving undulation, and hole locations fitting the tastes of the 15-time major winner himself. While playing a full-length Tiger Woods’ designed course might break the bank of the average golfer, a full day of play at PopStroke will run around $25 for adults, with discounted rates for children. “Some of my happiest memories are spending time with my pops on the golf course having putting contests,” Woods says via the PopStroke website. “I’m looking forward to others enjoying time with their kids at PopStroke.” Woods will take to the course with his own son, Charlie, at the PNC Championship later this month. The duo will look to win this year after coming in second to John Daly and his son in last year’s event in one of the most popular events of the fall season.

Golf industry unites behind Golfers For UkraineGolf industry unites behind Golfers For Ukraine

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – As the golf world gathers at TPC Sawgrass for THE PLAYERS Championship, it expresses its unified support for the people of Ukraine. PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan announced the TOUR’s support of Golfers For Ukraine, an industry-wide effort that is collecting donations for UNICEF, the United Nations agency that provides humanitarian and developmental aid to children impacted by the crisis. “Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine and those caught in the crosshairs of the conflict,” Monahan said Tuesday. “We hope for an end to this senseless violence and a peaceful resolution. The game of golf has a way of rallying around important causes and this is one.” The PGA TOUR is among the golf organizations that has made donations to Golfers For Ukraine. Players, caddies and staff at THE PLAYERS will wear blue-and-yellow ribbons in support of the Ukrainian people, and Commissioner Monahan encouraged golfers to show their support by making donations at GolfersForUkraine.com. As of Tuesday morning, more than $225,000 had been donated to the website. UNICEF’s first shipment of humanitarian aid arrived in Ukraine last weekend and more are scheduled, the organization said. The shipment of an estimated 62 tons of supplies arrived in a six-truck convoy and included medical supplies such as medicine, first-aid kids, midwifery kits and surgical equipment. The supplies are desperately needed as the conflict has forced families to shelter underground, cutting them off from basic services, and hospitals have moved their patients to basements. UNICEF said in a statement that hundreds of thousands of people are without safe drinking water due to damage to infrastructure and the country is running low on critical medical supplies. “It’s hard. It’s hard to see, honestly,” said Jon Rahm, the world’s top-ranked player. “These people in Ukraine right now need help. … It’s a lot of innocent people that shouldn’t be going through this. I am at a loss for words every time I think about it.” An additional delivery, including 17,000 blankets and warm clothing, is en route to Ukraine. The organization also is working to meet the needs of children and families fleeing into neighboring countries, including ‘Blue Dot’ safe spaces along transit routes where children and mothers can access services. The organization is asking for $349 million for its response in Ukraine, and the golf world is determined to do its part. “I think what’s going on in Ukraine is absolutely horrible,” said Rory McIlroy. “It’s absolutely brutal. It’s sad. It’s heartbreaking to see what’s happening to that country and those people and the families. From a human side of things, it’s just horrible what is going on.”

Max Homa wins Fortinet Championship for third PGA TOUR titleMax Homa wins Fortinet Championship for third PGA TOUR title

NAPA, Calif. — Max Homa holed out from the rough from 95 yards for eagle on the par-4 12th to start a back-nine comeback and added three birdies for a 7-under 65 and a one-stroke victory Sunday in the season-opening Fortinet Championship. RELATED: Leaderboard | Winner’s Bag: Max Homa, Fortinet Championship Three strokes behind Maverick McNealy with seven holes left, Homa followed the eagle with a birdie on the par-4 13th. The 30-year-old former University of California player tapped in for another birdie on the par-5 16th and ran in an 18-footer on the par-4 17th. He parred the par-5 18th to finish at 19-under 269. Homa won for the second time this year and the third time on the PGA TOUR. He won at Riviera in Los Angeles in February. McNealy shot a 68 to finish second. He birdied the 16th, then made a double bogey on 17 and an eagle on 18. The son of former Sun Microsystems CEO Scott McNealy, the 25-year-old player grew up in Palo Alto and starred at Stanford. Mito Pereira (68) was third at 16 under. Marc Leishman (65) and Talor Gooch (68) followed at 15 under. Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama (66) tied for sixth at 13 under. PGA Championship winner Phil Mickelson (75) was 7 under. Jim Knous (74) began the day tied for the lead with McNealy, but could never find his rhythm and finished at 12 under. Knous, who has one more start on a medical exemption, had a triple bogey on No. 14. Playing in the twosome just in front of McNealy, Homa birdied three of the last four holes on the front nine, then dropped a stroke on No. 10.
