Custom gear for the 2022 MastersCustom gear for the 2022 Masters

The Masters is a perfect storm for custom clubs and gear. The course, the tournament, the food and the colors are all so iconic. They provide the ideal inspiration for golf companies to develop cool pieces of custom equipment. Given how many companies created awesome one-off gear ahead of this year’s Masters, we couldn’t highlight just one custom piece here at the Equipment Report. Instead, we’ve compiled a list of the coolest Masters-inspired equipment below. Some of the gear highlighted below is currently available on the market, while other items will be much tougher to get your hands on. Read on for further details about each item. Bridgestone welcomes Tiger back After last year’s car accident, five-time champion Tiger Woods took a step back from competitive golf to heal his surgically-repaired right leg and get his game, and body, back into proper form. This week marks his return to competitive golf. It’s his first official start since the 2020 Masters. To celebrate Woods’ return, Bridgestone Golf – the company that makes the Tour B XS golf ball that Woods uses – is giving away 100 commemorative “Tiger’s Back” golf balls on its Twitter account. Follow the directions in the Tweet above to enter for a chance to win. TaylorMade’s Azalea golf balls Inspired by Augusta National’s famous Azalea flowers, Taylormade has released new Pix TP5 golf balls to retail. The five-layered balls feature the company’s popular visual technology on the ball’s urethane cover. You can find the limited-edition golf ball on the TaylorMade website, or you can follow the directions in Matthew Wolff’s tweet for a chance to win six dozen of them for free. Spieth’s bag goes for the Masters green Jordan Spieth, the 2015 Masters champion, typically uses a black-and-blue AT&T staff bag throughout the PGA TOUR season. At this year’s Masters, however, Spieth will be using an all-green version of the bag. This is the most festive that Spieth has gotten with his golf bag since last year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Custom staff bags Many golf manufacturers create custom staff bags for TOUR staffers to use in The Masters. Which company do you think did it best this year? Piretti’s 1-of-200 Azalea putter GolfWRX spotted this Piretti putter at last week’s Valero Texas Open. The high-end putter maker crafted this 1-of-200 putter with an Azalea flower on the sole and an “Interstate 20” local highway shoutout on the face. It may be difficult to get your hands on one of these beauties, since a Piretti representative told GolfWRX the putters have already sold out. SIK Golf’s 1-of-50 putter SIK Golf, the company that designs Bryson DeChambeau’s putters, was recently bought by LA Golf, the company that makes DeChambeau’s shafts. For this year’s Masters, LA Golf has developed 50 limited-edition SIK Golf putters that are creatively named “A Putter Unlike Any Other.” They are currently available on SIK Golf’s website selling for $899.99, and they come with an LA Golf putter shaft and custom headcover.

After going 3-0-1 at the Presidents Cup at Liberty National, 42-time PGA TOUR winner Phil Mickelson returns to wine country and the Silverado Resort and Spa after a T8 finish there a year ago. Mickelson headlines a field that also includes first-timer Zach Johnson and recent TOUR Championship contenders Tony Finau, Adam Hadwin and Webb Simpson. Others in the field at the 7,166-yard, par-72 North Course at Silverado Resort and Spa include Emiliano Grillo, the Safeway champion two years ago who is coming off his Presidents Cup debut at Liberty National; Kevin Na; Ryan Moore; Sangmoon Bae; and Sam Saunders. Arnold Palmer’s grandson, Saunders shot a 59 in the Web.com Tour Championship last week, while two-time TOUR winner Bae is coming off his mandatory two-year hitch in the South Korean military. Silverado was the estate of a Civil War general and later a U.S. Senator before Robert Trent Jones, Jr., built two courses there in the 1960s. It was the home of the old Kaiser International on the PGA TOUR for 13 years starting in 1968, and hosted The Transamerica on the PGA TOUR Champions from 1989-2002. Johnny Miller bought the resort in 2010 and made upgrades to both courses. The winner gets 500 FedExCup points. Jonas Blixt, Sangmoon Bae and Emiliano Grillo: This trio of global up-and-comers and past Safeway Open champions includes three-time TOUR winner Blixt, 33, a Swede who won the tournament in 2012 (and with Cameron Smith captured the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last season); Bae, the 2015 champion, who is returning from military service in South Korea; and Argentina’s Grillo, the 2016 champ, who like Mickelson played in the Presidents Cup at Liberty last week. Tee times: 3:30 p.m. ET off No. 1 on Thursday and 10:40 a.m. ET off 10 on Friday.   Phil Mickelson, Webb Simpson and Bryson DeChambeau: Mickelson, 47, is still seeking his first TOUR win since 2013, but things are looking up: He looked as vital as ever as he went 3-0-1 at the Presidents Cup at Liberty National. Simpson didn’t win last season, either, but was consistent as he finished 17th in the FedExCup standings. DeChambeau is coming off a wild summer in which he won the John Deere Classic and jetted off to The Open Championship as a result. Tee times: 3:40 p.m. ET off No. 1 on Thursday and 10:50 a.m. ET off No. 10 on Friday.   Cody Gribble, Mackenzie Hughes and Chris Stroud: Three first-time winners from 2016-17 PGA TOUR season, one of whom, Canada’s Hughes, came within a whisker of making captain Nick Price’s International Team at the Presidents Cup. Stroud, 35, had a summer in which he broke through at the Barracuda Championship and then added a T9 at the PGA Championship. (The Houstonian has lately been throwing himself into Hurricane Harvey relief.) Gribble, 27, looks to get back to the player who won the Sanderson Farms Championship. Tee times: 10:40 a.m. ET off No. 10 on Thursday and 3:30 p.m. ET off No. 1 on Friday.   Brendan Steele, Chesson Hadley and Zach Johnson: Defending champion Steele parlayed his early win last season into a deep run in the FedExCup Playoffs, getting all the way to the BMW Championship. Meanwhile, Web.com Tour Regular Season/Finals money-leader Chesson Hadley is coming off a victory at the Albertsons Boise Open and looking to make a splash in his return to the PGA TOUR, while two-time major winner Zach Johnson will be making his much-anticipated debut at Silverado North. Tee times: 10:50 a.m. ET off No. 10 on Thursday and 3:40 p.m. ET off No. 1 on Friday.

The Forecaddie: New pro-am format makes Tiger Woods happyThe Forecaddie: New pro-am format makes Tiger Woods happy

There was an extra pep in Tiger’s step over the last five holes of his Farmers Insurance Open pro-am round and The Man Out Front completely understands why. Woods learned on the 14th tee of his pro-am round that it may be one of the last times the 42-year-old PGA Tour veteran will ever have to play 18 holes with three or four amateurs. He was informed of a policy change by the PGA Tour’s player liaison, Ross Berlin, who came out on the course to tell Woods that the Tour has officially implemented a rule starting next week allowing all Tour events to install a “nine and nine format. That means players will only have to play nine before handing their group off to another player, a format used
