‘Play Yellow’ welcomes Bubba Watson as Brand Ambassador

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Play Yellow, a program benefitting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals), announced today its newest brand ambassador, two-time Masters champion and 12-time winner on the PGA TOUR, Bubba Watson. The TOUR superstar joins Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and fellow TOUR professionals in support of Play Yellow and its mission to bring the entire golf world together to help the 10 million kids treated at local CMN Hospitals each year. Bubba’s efforts for Play Yellow will primarily benefit his local CMN Hospital, Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola, Florida. “It’s been my family’s privilege to support Studer Family Children’s Hospital, and I’m excited to continue that support as a Play Yellow ambassador,” said Watson. “I have seen the tremendous impact the Studer Family Children’s Hospital has had in my hometown of Pensacola, and I look forward to helping Play Yellow expand its support for all the hospitals in the Children’s Miracle Network. Golf has a long history of supporting children’s hospitals, and I am honored to help Jack and Barbara in their effort to make a difference in the lives of children and families in need.” Watson, a resident of Pensacola who was born at Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola, and his wife, Angie, have made generous donations toward the construction of the new four-story children’s hospital, which opened in May 2019. To recognize the ongoing support of the Watson family, the entrance road to the new children’s hospital was officially named 1 Bubba Watson Drive. “Bubba Watson is one of the all-time greats at helping causes he cares about,” says Chad Phillips, SVP, Play Yellow. “We are thrilled to have another Masters Champion joining Jack with a passion for his home CMN Hospital, in Bubba’s case, Studer Family Children’s in Pensacola, Florida. Bubba will no doubt be an amazing ambassador for Play Yellow.” Launched in 2019 alongside Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and CMN Hospitals, Play Yellow strives to bring the entire golf world together and raise the critical funds needed by CMN Hospitals and the patients they serve. Like most nonprofits, children’s hospitals rely on donations. And because 37 million kids in the United States depend on public health insurance programs that don’t reimburse hospitals for the full cost of caring for these patients, the need for donations is even greater. Play Yellow brings golfers together for a good cause. Play Yellow was inspired by a family friend of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus named Craig Smith who was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma as a young teenager. As Craig battled cancer, Jack and Barbara looked to support him and his family. One way was for Jack to wear a shirt in Craig’s favorite color, yellow, which Craig said brought Jack luck from week to week. Over the years, Jack could be seen wearing yellow on tournament Sundays and major championship Sundays. Who can forget Sunday of the 1986 Masters Tournament when Jack wore a yellow shirt to honor Craig and went on to win his record sixth Green Jacket? Years later, Play Yellow was born. CMN Hospitals has raised more than $7 billion in unrestricted funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. Changing kids’ health through children’s hospitals isn’t just about helping those in critical situations — it’s also about the research, preventative care, health and safety education that help build healthier communities. By improving medical treatments, equipment and facilities, children’s hospitals can not only address the most challenging health issues of our day, but also prevent and prepare for those to come. When we change kids’ health, we change the future — for all of us.

Sleeper Picks: Fantasy golf advice for Waste Management Phoenix OpenSleeper Picks: Fantasy golf advice for Waste Management Phoenix Open

Sam Ryder … Rookies struggle in crashing the field of 132 at TPC Scottsdale because the cutoff for entry usually lands near the top of the Web.com Tour graduate reshuffle category. So, when he got off to a slow start as a rookie in 2017-18, he didn’t come close to snaring a tee time. Now that he’s fully exempt for finishing inside the top 125 of the FedExCup, the hurdle is history. Even better, he aligns with the profile for success better than many who have been here before. He finished last season ranked T10 in total driving, second in greens in regulation and T16 in proximity to the hole. He also finished ninth in good drive percentage, a value reflecting a combination of fairways hit and greens or fringe in regulation on par 4s and par 5s. It’s a skill with which course co-collaborator and updater, Tom Weiskopf, was associated. You’ll also find it peppered throughout this week’s Sleepers. Ryder already is on the board this season with a pair of top fives, including a solo third at TPC Summerlin, another desert layout. Ted Potter Jr. … When the lefty is on his game, he’s splitting every fairway and going bonkers with the putter. Not long off the tee as compared to most of his peers, it helps explain why he’s able to prevail in tournaments like the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. which he’ll be defending next week. His one-two punch can inflict some damage at TPC Scottsdale as well. At 7,261 yards stretched out, it’s about average on the PGA TOUR. He connected four red numbers en route to a T24 in 2013, but hasn’t returned since missing the cut a year later. Currently fourth in good drive percentage, 22nd in driving accuracy and 21st in greens in regulation. Already has a pair of top 15s on suitable course for him this season – The Club at Nine Bridges and Waialae. Vaughn Taylor … No matter the existing design of TPC Scottsdale when he’s appeared and despite the five-year hiatus from the tournament until his return in 2017, he’s acquitted himself nicely over time. Overall, he’s 7-for-9 with a solo seventh and a pair of T11s, one of the latter of which last year. For all of 2017-18, he ranked 12th in good drive percentage. Took last week off after a T7 at the Desert Classic where he placed T8 in good drive percentage and T5 in putts per GIR. Brian Stuard … While his lone PGA TOUR victory occurred in the last edition of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans as an individual competition in 2016, which was shortened to 54 holes due to weather, he’s profiled best throughout his career in the tropics. A T8 at Waialae three weeks ago helped prove that point. However, TPC Scottsdale has been good to the veteran as he’s yet to miss a cut in five tries. His record includes a T10 in 2015 and a T16 in 2017. Finished last season ranked 18th in good drive percentage. Matthew Wolff … Of all the places where he could have splashed onto the PGA TOUR, he landed in a dandy. The 19-year-old sophomore at Oklahoma State University turns heads with his funky action. It’s a move that’s vaulted him to No. 4 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He walked off 2018 with two outright wins, a share of another title and a fourth-place finish at an amateur event at renown Royal Melbourne Golf Club. While a direct parallel to Jon Rahm is unfair to both golfers, it was in 2015 when the Spaniard placed T5 as an amateur at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, proving that the test is fair no matter the inexperience at this level. Wolff’s skill set can’t help but remain sharp given that one of his fellow Cowboys is 2018 U.S. Amateur champion Viktor Hovland, who sits No. 3 in the WAGR. NOTE: Sleeper is a relative term, so Rob uses unofficial criteria to determine who qualifies. Each of the following usually is determined to be ineligible for this weekly staple: Winners of the tournament on the current host course; winners in the same season; recent major champions; top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking; recent participants of team competitions.

Wyndham Rewards Top 10 update: Rickie Fowler joins the partyWyndham Rewards Top 10 update: Rickie Fowler joins the party

Rickie Fowler’s brilliant mental toughness that allowed him to bounce back from severe adversity during the final round to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open has seen the popular star make a big move into the top 10 of the Wyndham Rewards standings.  Fowler went from 65th to 7th in the FedExCup standings with his fifth PGA TOUR title. The top 10 in the standings after the Wyndham Championship — the final event of the PGA TOUR’s regular season — will receive a portion of the $10 million bonus in the new Wyndham Rewards Top 10 competition. First place after the Wyndham Championship will receive $2 million, followed by $1.5 million for second, all the way to $500,000 for 10th place, the final spot eligible for a bonus. “Winning takes care of a lot. Obviously, it’s nice to be back up in FedExCup points because when you don’t play much in the fall you kind of start the calendar year pretty far behind the eight ball and playing catch up,â€ Fowler said. “This is a nice start to get back kind of in the race for that and of course the new Wyndham Rewards at the end of the regular season … and we get to go to Kapalua next year so that’s never terrible.â€ Fowler’s jump of 58 spots in the standings wasn’t the biggest of the week at TPC Scottsdale … that honor went to Branden Grace as he moved a whopping 138 spots. Here are the top 10 biggest moves (tournament result in parentheses) in the FedExCup standings: 138 – Branden Grace (2), 169 to 31 92 – Bubba Watson (T4), 174 to 82 83 – Chris Stroud (T7), 198 to 115 58 – Rickie Fowler (Won), 65 to 7 47 – Jhonattan Vegas (T10), 147 to 100 46 – Russell Knox (T10), 135 to 89 40 – Russell Henley (T15), 172 to 132 36 – Trey Mullinax (T15), 140 to 104 36 – Charley Hoffman (T20), 183 to 147 36 – Max Homa (T26), 210 to 174 LOOKING AHEAD Going into this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am just two of the top 10 players in the Wyndham Rewards Top 10 are in the field. No. 2 Matt Kuchar has a chance to take over top spot given he’s just 28 points behind leader Xander Schauffele. No. 10 Cameron Champ is the other top 10 player in the field.
