Phil Mickelson confirms $10 million match with Tiger Woods

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, West Virginia — Phil Mickelson confirmed Saturday that reports of a potential $10 million winner-take-all match against his longtime rival Tiger Woods are “accurateâ€ but did not elaborate on details regarding a date or location. “The report was accurate, but I don’t know what else to say,â€ Mickelson told the Golf Channel after shooting a 70 in the third round of A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier that left him 5 under. “I’m sure as soon as we know more, we’ll fill you in. But right now, I don’t have much more to add to it.â€ Earlier this week, Golf.com reported that the match nearly came to fruition on July 3 in Las Vegas but TV network and corporate negotiations could not completed in time. “We’re working on a different date,” Mickelson was quoted as saying on Thursday. “I thought it was done for the 3rd but obviously it wasn’t.” There has been no comment from the Woods camp. Mickelson first broached the idea of a winner-take-all match after he and Woods were paired together, along with Rickie Fowler, during the first two rounds of THE PLAYERS Championship. According to Golf.com, the plans for the made-for-TV showdown were already in the works.

Mickelson eyes ‘most special’ Ryder CupMickelson eyes ‘most special’ Ryder Cup

Phil Mickelson believes this month’s Ryder Cup could be the most special of his career if he is handed a 12th cap by USA captain Jim Furyk on Tuesday. Mickelson boosted his goal of competing in France later this month after posting closing rounds of 67 and 63 for an eventual 10-under-par total at the PGA Dell Technologies Championship on Monday. The 48-year-old’s closing 63 could not have come at a better time for Mickelson, with Furyk set to announce three of his four captain’s picks on Tuesday.

Jon Rahm (+9%): For months we’ve heard about this kid’s immense gifts and monster potential, about the quality of his game when it all comes together. X-Man (+6%): Nothing flashy here: Xander Schauffele showed improvement each year in college, and he has shown the same development in the pros, earning his card in his first try, contending in a major and then winning his first Tour event. Chesson Hadley (+4%): Here was one of the most heartwarming moments of the year, as the former PGA Tour Rookie of the Year buried his face in his hat and cried after winning on the Web circuit. Beau (+3%): Hossler started the year with no status anywhere, after his 2016 NCAA Player of the Year season was cut short following shoulder surgery.
