Golf-Australian duo Leishman, Smith harness spirit of Anzac Day in Zurich Classic win

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Graeme McDowell won the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship on Sunday for his first PGA TOUR title since 2016, closing with a 3-under 69 for a one-stroke victory over Chris Stroud and Mackenzie Hughes. McDowell took the lead from Stroud with a birdie on the par-4 17th and closed with a bogey — lagging a 30-foot par putt to inches — on the par-4 18th. Stroud bogeyed the final two holes in a 69. Hughes also closed with a bogey for a 66. McDowell finished at 18-under 270, rebounding from an opening 73 with consecutive 64s to take a one-stroke lead over Stroud into the final round. The 2010 U.S. Open champion, McDowell won his fourth PGA TOUR title.  Jonathan Byrd (66) was fourth at 16 under, and Chip McDaniel (63) and Kelly Kraft (68) followed at 15 under. Second-round leader Sungjae Im had a 71 to tie for seventh at 14 under.

Tiger Woods tees it up in just his second start of 2019, once again seeking a breakthrough on the hometown venue that has left him empty-handed more than any other on the PGA TOUR. Bubba Watson serves as the man to beat, though, defending a third title in his past five visits to famed Riviera Country Club. Dustin Johnson, the 2017 winner at Riviera, seeks to build on a win in Saudi Arabia while Bryson DeChambeau and FedExCup points leader Xander Schauffele also enter with momentum from recent victories. The event also marks the first U.S. start of the year for Sergio Garcia. FIELD NOTES: Francesco Molinari, the Open Championship titleholder, also heads an infusion of overseas pros readying for a stretch that includes THE PLAYERS Championship and two World Golf Championship stops. … Rory McIlroy makes his third start at Riviera, where he has tied for 20th in each of his previous two visits. … All told, the Genesis lineup is projected to feature 20 of the FedExCup’s top 30. … Fred Couples, 58, a two-time winner and perennial Riviera favorite, returns on a sponsor exemption after a two-year hiatus. DUBLIN, Ohio — Bryson DeChambeau made birdies on two of the toughest holes for a 6-under 66 to take a 1-shot lead into a final round at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide that features Tiger Woods in contention at Muirfield Village for the first time in six years. Woods let another great round get away by missing short putts. He had to settle for a 68 and was five shots behind. He wasn’t alone. DeChambeau missed 3-foot birdie putts on the ninth and 15th holes. But he poured it on at the end to lead by one shot over Patrick Cantlay (66), Kyle Stanley and 19-year-old Joaquin Niemann of Chile, who played in the last group and each had 70. DeChambeau was at 14-under 202 on a soft course vulnerable to low scores.
