Fan screams during Tiger Woods putt, deserves lifetime ban from attending PGA Tour events

Tiger Woods is trying to overcome a lot this week in his return to the PGA Tour. There’s that whole fused back he’s still getting used to. The rust he’s attempting to knock off due to a lack of competition. And he’s taking on a Torrey

Emergency 9: Fantasy advice following CareerBuilder ChallengeEmergency 9: Fantasy advice following CareerBuilder Challenge

Here are nine tidbits from the final round of the CareerBuilder Challenge that gamers can use tomorrow, this weekend or down the road. Be looking for the Emergency 9 shortly after the close of play of each round of the tournament. Rah Rah Rahm The most picked player in PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf presented by SERVPRO and PGA TOUR Fantasy One & Done presented by SERVPRO did exactly what he was supposed to do. Jon Rahm, the highest ranked player in the field at No. 3 in the OWGR, needed four playoff holes to win for the second time on TOUR. What a difference a year makes as this time last year he was No. 137 and had zero wins. He’s added the Farmers Insurance Open, the Irish Open and the DT World Tour Championship in those 12 months. He’s played two events on TOUR this season and has finished first and second. There’s nothing better in fantasy golf when the player meets the gamer’s expectations. Gracias! #NappyFactor Andrew Landry’s wife is due in March. This is his third top 10 in seven events in the new season and best finish on TOUR. He showed his meddle down the stretch as his birdie putt on the final hole forced a playoff. He only made one bogey on the week, his 60th hole, but it didn’t deter him. He’ll rue his chance on the second playoff hole as his putt for birdie and the win didn’t scare the hole. He’ll add this to his Oakmont experience from last summer and should be in the mix as 2018 rolls on. I’d stick him in any keeper league and watch him grow. No Questions for John John Huh hasn’t cashed a top 10 check since last March at Innisbrook before T3 Sunday. He hasn’t landed on the podium since the 2014 Barracuda Championship! Gamers might want to put a circle around him for next year as this was his third top 30 in four tries in the Coachella Valley. His weekend (65-66) included eight birdies on Saturday and six birdies and an eagle on Sunday. Had Another Chance Adam Hadwin didn’t show any signs of life in four events during the fall and only put two rounds of 16 in the 60’s. Course historians will point out that he was T6 in 2016 and second last year after his 59 Saturday at La Quinta. While his normally trusty putter wasn’t firing like he expected, his iron game saw him peg T7 GIR. His 68 Sunday was his worst round of the week and he still finished T4. It’s obvious that this course rotation fits his eye and game. California Dreamin’ Fresno native Kevin Chappell (T6) is going to petition the tournament committee to have ALL four rounds at the Stadium Course. He fired a bogey-free 64 Friday on his first trip. He added six more birdies for 67 on Sunday. The Stadium Course was the only track of the three to use ShotLink and it validated Chappell’s love. He led those who played the Stadium Course twice in SG: Approach to the Green, Tee to Green and Total. He was also T2 in GIR for the week across all three tracks. Chappell has never MC in six tries at this event. All in the Family His grandfather Arnold Palmer won this event five times. Grandson Sam Saunders collected a check for the first time in four tries. His 64 on Sunday was the low round of the day by two shots and vaulted him up the leaderboard 34 spots to T8. His 28 birdies were T1 for the week. He flashed signs at the Web.com Finals last fall as he fired 59 at Atlantic Beach. He hovered around the top 10 at Sony last week before fading on Sunday to T25. He’s never had more than two top 10’s in a season or finished in FedExCup top 125. Caution. Grandstand Finishers Canadian Nick Taylor’s 66 saw him quietly collect his fifth top 32 paycheck in seven starts this season. … Bud Cauley, one of my favorites, kept his streak of hitting T14 or better in the new rotation with his closing 66. He’s now cashed T14, T3 and T14 the last three years and is 51-under-par. … Harris English popped onto the radar for a hot second last week. His second round 65 caught my eye but his weekend (70-72) kept me away. He flashed 66 Sunday to move up 22 spots to T11. Noted. Familiar Faces PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf presented by SERVPRO most popular player won the tournament but only two of the top 10 selected players missed the cut, Phil Mickelson and Patrick Reed. Mickelson broke a streak of 12 events in a row once again proving that there are no guarantees in fantasy golf. Reed is a former champion but his win is his only top 10 in six tries. Of those eight selected playing on Sunday none finished inside the top 20. Fantasy golf is hard. Study Hall Sergio Garcia won the Singapore Open by five shots to start his 20th year as a professional. Pat Perez collected T21 money but will not play in his hometown event this week at the Farmers Insurance Open. … Tommy Fleetwood shot 65 and came from five shots off the pace to defend his title at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Rory McIlroy (70) cashed T3 while Dustin Johnson was T9. Justin Rose, who is playing Torrey Pines, was bogey-free in the final round to claim T22. … C.T. Pan tweeted Sunday he had the flu this week and that was a factor to him missing the cut. He was T2 at the Farmers Insurance last year. … The top four finishers at the Singapore Open (not previously qualified) Jazz Janewattananond, Lucas Herbert, Danthai Boonma and Sean Crocker booked their spots at The Open Championship at Carnoustie.

FedExCup Insider: Charley Hoffman’s impressive streak on the line at Dell Technologies ChampionshipFedExCup Insider: Charley Hoffman’s impressive streak on the line at Dell Technologies Championship

Charley Hoffman and Phil Mickelson both hail from San Diego. They were teammates on last year’s Presidents Cup team. The comparisons usually stop there. Hoffman has a strong resume, one that many of his peers would be happy to have, but Mickelson is one of the most accomplished players in the history of the game.  Hoffman and Mickelson do share one more similarity, though. They are the only players to qualify for the BMW Championship in every season since the FedExCup’s inception in 2007. It’s an impressive display of consistency, requiring a top-70 finish in the FedExCup standings. Mickelson is 10th in this season’s standings. Next week’s tee time at Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia is guaranteed, and he’s a safe bet to advance to the TOUR Championship for the ninth time in the FedExCup era. Hoffman’s BMW streak is in a much more precarious position. He is 75th in the FedExCup standings, 45 points behind No. 70 Kevin Streelman. Hoffman returns to a site of past success this week. He earned the second of his four PGA TOUR victories at TPC Boston in 2010, shooting a final-round 62 to win by five shots. Five years later, Hoffman shot a second-round 63 to take the 36-hole lead at TPC Boston. He finished third after shooting 76-67 on the weekend. “This is one of those courses you get on the tee, (it sets) up well, and the visuals are good. And I tend to make a few more putts than average for me out here on these greens, which is nice,â€ he said in 2015. Hoffman finished a career-best fourth in the FedExCup after winning at TPC Boston in 2010. He’s qualified for the TOUR Championship in two of the past three seasons, but now he has work to do to avoid the earliest exit of his FedExCup career.  Hoffman, the lone player to qualify for this year’s Playoffs without a top-10, began the postseason ranked 98th in the FedExCup. He jumped 23 spots with his 20th-place finish at THE NORTHERN TRUST.  He could have climbed even higher, though, if not for bogeys on two of his final three holes. He three-putted the final hole from 38 feet to drop five spots on the leaderboard. Only Bryce Molder (2013) and Ernie Els (2011) have made it to the third Playoffs stop without a top-10 finish, but Hoffman could join that short list. The projections say that a 25th-place finish could result in safe passage from Boston to Philadelphia. Hoffman has made the cut in 75 percent of his starts this season. He has nine top-25s but hasn’t finished better than his T12 at Augusta National. Another BMW start is still within reach, though. ODDS AND ENDS • Aaron Wise took the lead in the Rookie of the Year race with his fifth-place finish at THE NORTHERN TRUST. He leapt from 27th to 15th in the FedExCup standings, taking one step closer to the TOUR Championship. The T5 continued an interesting trend for Wise. In his last 10 starts, he has either missed the cut or finished in the top 6. That stretch includes a runner-up finish at Wells Fargo and AT&T Byron Nelson victory in back-to-back starts. He also finished T6 at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational. Wise is 21 spots ahead of his fellow rookie, RSM Classic champion Austin Cook. Cook is just 48 points behind fellow Arkansas alum Andrew Landry, who holds the 30th spot in the FedExCup standings. Wise and Cook are the only rookies in the FedExCup’s top 70. Five rookies remain in the FedExCup Playoffs, though. RBC Heritage champion Satoshi Kodaira (85th in the FedExCup), Massachusetts native Peter Uihlein (83) and Keith Mitchell (78) also will play at TPC Boston. • Nick Watney was 102nd in the FedExCup at the start of the Playoffs. He needed to earn  points at last week’s THE NORTHERN TRUST just to keep his postseason alive. Watney’s T11 at Ridgewood guaranteed him a start at this week’s Dell Technologies Championship and put a return to Aronimink within reach. Aronimink, which is hosting next week’s BMW Championship, was the site of Watney’s win in the 2011 Quicken Loans National. Watney jumped 35 spots in the FedExCup standings last week to No. 67. He last played the BMW Championship in 2015. His THE NORTHERN TRUST finish was his second-best of the season. Watney was one of 10 players to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs with one or fewer top-10s this season. A runner-up finish at the Wells Fargo Championship, his best finish in three years, accounted for half of his 491 points in the regular season. Aronimink twice hosted the Quicken Loans National. Justin Rose earned the second of his nine PGA TOUR wins at Aronimink in 2010. He’s sixth in this season’s FedExCup standings. • The best shot of Bronson Burgoon’s career clinched the NCAA Championship. He hit a gap wedge within inches of the hole at Inverness’ 18th hole to give Texas A&M the 2009 NCAA Championship (Burgoon beat Landry in the championship’s clinching match).   “I play better when I’ve got a little bit of pressure on me. I always have,â€ Burgoon said Sunday. He proved it once again at THE NORTHERN TRUST. A Sunday 66 continued Burgoon’s rapid rise up the FedExCup standings.  He was 160th in the standings at the end of June, but finished T6-T30-T2 in his next three starts to crack the top 100. His T11 at THE NORTHERN TRUST moved him from 111th to 73rd in the FedExCup standings. Sunday was a good day for Texas A&M Aggies. His former teammate, Andrea Pavan, won his first European Tour title in a final-round showdown with Padraig Harrington. Pavan also was on that 2009 title team. Burgoon made the cut at Ridgewood with just a shot to spare, then shot 67-66 on the weekend. Only THE NORTHERN TRUST winner Bryson DeChambeau (63-69) shot lower over the final 36 holes.

Ryder Cup: Match recaps, Day 3Ryder Cup: Match recaps, Day 3

GUYANCOURT, France – Here are the match recaps for the Sundays Singles at the 2018 Ryder Cup. Europe entered the final day at Le Golf National with a 10-6 lead and needed 4.5 points out of a possible 12 to reclaim the Cup. SUNDAY SINGLES Match 1: Justin Thomas, USA def. Rory McIlroy, Europe, 1 up Holes won: USA 5, Europe 4 Holes led: USA 2, Europe 8 Recap: Thomas finished off the best week of the American players, winning for the fourth time in five matches in his first Ryder Cup appearance. The match was all square going to the final hole. After Thomas found the fairway with his tee shot, McIlroy found trouble, with his tee ball half-buried near the lip of the fairway bunker. Aiming sideways, he tried to blast out, but the ball dribbled back into the bunker. His third shot then hit the lip of the bunker and dribbled into the water across the fairway. After Thomas found the green with his second shot, McIlroy conceded the hole and the match. Before his trouble at the 18th, McIlroy had one birdie and 16 pars, but was undone by missing several makeable putts. Quote: “It was an extremely unfitting way for that match to end. I’m very happy to get the point for our team, but I didn’t want to get it like I that. I’m sure it helps a little bit I hit a great drive. I told Rory I’ve looked up to him for a long time, and I’ve always respected the way he’s treated me, so it was pretty cool getting thrown out there in the first match and playing against himâ€ – Justin Thomas Match 2: Brooks Koepka, USA and Paul Casey, Europe, halved Holes won: USA 4, Europe 4 Holes led: USA 9, Europe 2 Recap: Consecutive birdies on the back nine gave Koepka the lead, but Casey fought back with a birdie on the 17th hole to earn the half-point. Koepka managed to get up-and-down from the greenside bunker at 18 while Casey missed a 20-foot birdie putt that would’ve won the hole. Koepka played bogey-free golf with four birdies. Quote: “It was a fun match. Paul played pretty well. It was probably the way it should’ve finishedâ€ – Brooks Koepka … “Massive respect for Brooks. … It was a great classic match.â€ – Paul Casey
