Custom gear for the 2022 Masters

The Masters is a perfect storm for custom clubs and gear. The course, the tournament, the food and the colors are all so iconic. They provide the ideal inspiration for golf companies to develop cool pieces of custom equipment. Given how many companies created awesome one-off gear ahead of this year’s Masters, we couldn’t highlight just one custom piece here at the Equipment Report. Instead, we’ve compiled a list of the coolest Masters-inspired equipment below. Some of the gear highlighted below is currently available on the market, while other items will be much tougher to get your hands on. Read on for further details about each item. Bridgestone welcomes Tiger back After last year’s car accident, five-time champion Tiger Woods took a step back from competitive golf to heal his surgically-repaired right leg and get his game, and body, back into proper form. This week marks his return to competitive golf. It’s his first official start since the 2020 Masters. To celebrate Woods’ return, Bridgestone Golf – the company that makes the Tour B XS golf ball that Woods uses – is giving away 100 commemorative “Tiger’s Back” golf balls on its Twitter account. Follow the directions in the Tweet above to enter for a chance to win. TaylorMade’s Azalea golf balls Inspired by Augusta National’s famous Azalea flowers, Taylormade has released new Pix TP5 golf balls to retail. The five-layered balls feature the company’s popular visual technology on the ball’s urethane cover. You can find the limited-edition golf ball on the TaylorMade website, or you can follow the directions in Matthew Wolff’s tweet for a chance to win six dozen of them for free. Spieth’s bag goes for the Masters green Jordan Spieth, the 2015 Masters champion, typically uses a black-and-blue AT&T staff bag throughout the PGA TOUR season. At this year’s Masters, however, Spieth will be using an all-green version of the bag. This is the most festive that Spieth has gotten with his golf bag since last year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Custom staff bags Many golf manufacturers create custom staff bags for TOUR staffers to use in The Masters. Which company do you think did it best this year? Piretti’s 1-of-200 Azalea putter GolfWRX spotted this Piretti putter at last week’s Valero Texas Open. The high-end putter maker crafted this 1-of-200 putter with an Azalea flower on the sole and an “Interstate 20” local highway shoutout on the face. It may be difficult to get your hands on one of these beauties, since a Piretti representative told GolfWRX the putters have already sold out. SIK Golf’s 1-of-50 putter SIK Golf, the company that designs Bryson DeChambeau’s putters, was recently bought by LA Golf, the company that makes DeChambeau’s shafts. For this year’s Masters, LA Golf has developed 50 limited-edition SIK Golf putters that are creatively named “A Putter Unlike Any Other.” They are currently available on SIK Golf’s website selling for $899.99, and they come with an LA Golf putter shaft and custom headcover.

Si Woo Kim WDs from John Deere Classic, last expected start before the OlympicsSi Woo Kim WDs from John Deere Classic, last expected start before the Olympics

South Korea’s Si Woo Kim withdrew during the first round of the John Deere Classic, his final expected start before the Olympics. Kim withdrew with a back injury after hitting his tee shot on the ninth hole at TPC Deere Run. He was 7 over par for his round and 6 over in his last four holes. A triple-bogey at the par-4 fifth hole was followed by three consecutive bogeys. Kim teed off Thursday afternoon alongside fellow Olympians Sebastian Munoz of Colombia and C.T. Pan of Chinese Taipei. Kim, No. 33 in this season’s FedExCup standings, and countryman Sungjae Im had already withdrawn from next week’s Open Championship to prepare for the Olympic Games. The men’s competition will be held July 29-Aug. 1 at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Saitama, Japan. Kim, the world’s 50th-ranked player, finished 20th in the final Olympic golf ranking. Kim, 26, won The American Express in January for his third PGA TOUR title and first since the 2017 PLAYERS Championship. Kim has just two top-10s since winning at PGA West, finishing T9 at THE PLAYERS and Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. He also finished T12 at this year’s Masters.

The global swing of the PGA TOUR continues as we find ourselves in China with a star-studded field set to do battle at Sheshan International Golf Club. It’s the first of four World Golf Championship events for the season, which brings with it an increased purse and of course a solid 550 FedExCup points to the winner. The 72-hole stroke-play tournament features a 78-player field, with no cut. Highlighting the field are defending champion Hideki Matsuyama – who became the first player from Asia to win a World Golf Championship event at last year’s HSBC Champions and followed by winning the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational later in the season – and world No. 1 Dustin Johnson – who won the Mexico Championship and the Dell Technologies Match Play. Between them, the two players hold all four of the current World Golf Championships titles. For the first time in history, the PGA TOUR also welcomes players from China as members in the field. Zecheng Dou and Xinjun Zhang are rookies in 2017-18 after graduating from the Web.com Tour. They are part of a seven-man Chinese tilt. Here are the featured groups. China is 12 hours ahead. All tee times are Eastern Time. Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, Jon Rahm The two players who hold all four WGC trophies in Matsuyama and Johnson are joined by the powerful Jon Rahm, who many predict will finish his career with a boatload of titles. Matsuyama finessed his way to a brilliant win last season and will be hoping to do so again, while Johnson starts his season looking to reassert his position as the world’s best now that the likes of Justin Thomas are coming for his mantle. Tee times: Wednesday 10:50 p.m. (ET) off 10 tee; Thursday 9:40 p.m. off 1st tee Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose, Paul Casey Eventually, Paul Casey is going to turn one of these perennial contention weeks into a victory – so why not this week as he has two top-10 finishes in the tournament prior to it taking official WGC status. Rose also had a top-10 finish in his past at the venue and will be looking to kick-start the new season in style. Kuchar will be inspired to play well in the land of ping pong – where he’s already putting his considerable skills to the test against the locals. Tee times: Wednesday 10:40 p.m. (ET) off 10 tee; Thursday 9:30 p.m. off 1st tee   Tyrrell Hatton, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Haotong Li Hatton is the hot hand, having won the last two European Tour events he entered at the Dunhill Links and Italian Open, while Fitzpatrick is also a recent trophy hoister having claimed the European Masters. They are joined by one the locals big hopes in Li who is no stranger to big event pressure having finished third at The Open Championship last season. Tee times: Wednesday 10:30 p.m. (ET) off 10th tee; Thursday 9:20 p.m. off 1st tee   Jason Day, Henrik Stenson, Brooks Koepka Day started his season last week in reasonable form with a T11 finish in Korea but the key was the return of his putting. With some rust shaken off in his tee and iron play he could be a huge factor. Stenson was tied for second last season in China and T11 the year before … his pure striking is suited for success. And of course the reigning U.S. Open champion will be hoping to start his season with a serious bang as he kicks off his 2017-18 campaign. Tee times: Wednesday 9:50 p.m. (ET) off 10th tee; Thursday 10:50 p.m. off 1st tee
