Anirban Lahiri’s blowup on 18 at the Players Championship was painful to watch

Anirban Lahiri was at even par and poised to make the cut when he approached the 18th tee box Friday during Round 2 of the Players Championship. Having made birdie on 16 and par on 17, Lahiri needed bogey on 18 to hit the projected cutline at 1 over. He did not make bogey. Lahiri hooked his first drive way left into the water. Then things got weird as Lahiri hooked two more shots into the water, his chances of making the cut gone in horrific fashion. He finally found the fairway on his fourth try and was lying 7 from 125 yards out. He put it on the green and two-putted for his 10, playing the hole 6 over par and finishing 6 over for the tournament. Man, that was brutal. The 29-year-old Lahiri

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — What to make of Tiger Woods right now? His performance in the weeks leading into the Masters led many of us to believe he was on his way back to becoming one of the elite players in the game. Yet his performance the past two weeks leads us to wonder if he’s becoming just another ordinary PGA Tour pro searching for his game from week to week, hoping to strike lightning every once in a while and put four really good rounds together in the same tournament. Woods, since the moment his father, Earl, put a golf club in his hands as a toddler, has never been anything close to ordinary. He’s spent his entire life being extraordinary. Horsfield takes 1-shot lead into final round at Hero OpenHorsfield takes 1-shot lead into final round at Hero Open

Sam Horsfield will take a one-shot lead into the final day of the Hero Open despite leading by six strokes at one stage in the third round of the European Tour’s latest stop in England. ”My caddie just said to me coming off the 18th green, ‘If someone would have said to you on Thursday you can have a one shot lead going into Sunday, you would take it,”’ Horsfield told europeantour.com. Like Horsfield, Farr is also searching for a first European Tour win and he was hopeful his three victories on the second-tier Challenge Tour would hold him in good stead after a 5-under 67.
