Brandon Ingram Trade Talks Have ‘Intensified’

With Brandon Ingram and the New Orleans Pelicans unable to find common ground on a contract extension, sources tell Marc Stein that attempts to trade have intensified. Ingram has one season remaining on his contract with the Pelicans.

The Pelicans are expected to trade Ingram, sign Trey Murphy III to a contract extension and also improve their options at center this offseason after previously trading for Dejounte Murray.

The Sacramento Kings are among the teams interested in trading for Ingram, who is represented by Jeff Schwartz and Jordan Gertler. In 64 games with the Pelicans last season, Ingram averaged 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists in 32.9 minutes. The Kings also have explored the possibility of a trade for Lauri Markkanen and Kyle Kuzma. Alvin Gentry, who continues to work in the front office of the Kings, coached Ingram with the Pelicans earlier in his career.

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young was a recent guest on Podcast P with Paul George. Young touched on a lot of subjects, including the failed partnership with Dejounte Murray in the Hawks backcourt.

“It’s tough cause we wanted to win,” Young said. “We’re not the first duo that couldn’t work and we’re not going to be the last.”

Young explained that Murray is a lifelong friend, but things just didn’t work out on the court. The Hawks guard said that both he and Murray realized that they didn’t win enough to keep Atlanta from making a move.

The Hawks traded Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans for a package of players that included Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance Jr. Both Daniels and Nance are expected to fill rotation roles for Atlanta this season.
