NBA All-Star Blake Griffin attending TOUR Championship

The PGA TOUR’s biggest stars are at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club for this week’s TOUR Championship, as is one of the NBA’s biggest names. NBA veteran and former collegiate player of the year Blake Griffin is attending the TOUR Championship this week. Griffin, a six-time NBA All-Star, walked with Max Homa and rookie Sahith Theegala during Friday’s second round. “I love the fact that Max during The Open is like, ‘I’m playing with Tiger Woods today.’ He’s having a full freak-out moment that everyone else would but he’s not afraid to say it,” Griffin said. “I respect people that are like that. It’s just real. You’re a real person. He doesn’t take himself too seriously.” The 12-year NBA veteran recently took up the game as a competitive outlet and said he’s become “obsessed,” even building a simulator in his home. The TOUR Championship was the first golf tournament he attended, calling it “unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.” “I can’t stop,” he said. “I put a simulator in my house. If I have 30 free minutes, I’m down in my simulator and I’m working on stuff. I don’t know what I’m doing but I’m working on it. “I knew that when I retired from basketball, … I needed a competitive outlet or I’ll be like a psychopath,” he added. “I started playing and I was awful. I’m still awful but a better awful. “You want the challenge. … You want it to be hard. This is such a different sport. It’s so mentally tough, that’s why I love it. If golf was easy, nobody would play.”

The 2019 Korn Ferry Tour season came to a close Monday in Evansville, Indiana as the Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance wrapped up with a Labor Day finish. England’s Tom Lewis won the season-ending event in dominant fashion at 23-under, five strokes clear of second-place finisher Fabián Gómez. The first 25 cards were earned at the conclusion of the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by KraftHeinz earlier this month, while the second set of cards were awarded at the conclusion of the three-event Finals. Scottie Scheffler won both the season-long and Finals Points Lists this season on the strength of two victories at the Evans Scholars Invitational and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. He is the first player to win both titles since Chesson Hadley accomplished the feat in 2017. Scheffler was steady throughout the 2019 season with 10 top-10 finishes and he also led the Korn Ferry Tour in birdies and scoring average. By virtue of winning the Points List, Scheffler earns fully exempt status throughout the 2019-20 season which begins next week at A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier. With his fully exempt status, Scheffler also earned a place in THE PLAYERS Championship. There was plenty of drama on the final day of the Korn Ferry Tour season as players battled the unforgiving Victoria National Golf Club. Indiana native Chris Baker, who missed his PGA TOUR card by one spot during the Regular Season, locked up his first PGA TOUR card with a dramatic six-foot putt on the final hole. Former Masters low amateur Doug Ghim also locked up a TOUR card on the final hole. The 23-year-old got up-and-down from a greenside bunker on the 72nd hole, punctuated with an emphatic fist pump, to join a host of former Texas Longhorns on the PGA TOUR.
