Jay Beagle was surprised to get an early shift in overtime. The Washington center scored 19 seconds into the extra period and the Capitals rallied to beat the Dallas Stars 4-3 on Saturday night. Beagle, who has 10 goals and 20 points in his ninth NHL season, said he didn’t expect to go out for the 3-on-3 overtime.

Sabres forward Jochen Hecht agreed to a four-year, $14.1 million contract extension on Tuesday that will keep him in Buffalo through the 2011-12 season. He’ll make $3.8 million in the first two years of his extension, followed by $3.5 million and $3 million in the final two.
