Rombauer upsets in the Preakness (G1)

Timber Reserve swept past the leaders on the far turn, fought off a tough challenge from Xchanger and won the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby on Monday at Philadelphia Park. The 3-year-old horse won in his first race of the year. Cable Boy, the pacesetter in the Haskell Invitational last month at Monmouth Park, grabbed the lead out of the gate.

Safe Play outlasted John’s Pic through the stretch to win the $60,000 My Frenchman Stakes by a neck at Monmouth Park on Saturday. Trained by Jason Servis and ridden by Chuck C. Lopez, Safe Play paid $6.80 to win after covering the 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track in 1:03. There was no place or show wagering after the field was reduced to three starters because the race was taken off the turf.

The traditional Alibi Breakfast was back after a 2 year hiatus on Thursday May 19, before the 147th running of the Preakness Stakes. Connections of five of the nine Preakness entrants were on hand to swap stories about their horse as well as watch the presentation of the annual awards.
