Longtime agent Rob Pelinka was formally named the Los Angeles Lakers’ new general manager on Tuesday. Pelinka got the job shortly after Lakers owner Jeanie Buss fired GM Mitch Kupchak and her brother, Jim, as the club’s top basketball executives last month. The team waited to announce the hiring until Pelinka complied with NBA rules against conflicts of interest, in part by transferring responsibility for his clients to other agents in his firm, Landmark Sports Agency.

The Milwaukee Bucks have some help on the way as their first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers gets started. Star guard Damian Lillard is expected to return for the Bucks for Game 2 or Game 3 against the Pacers.

Lillard has not played since March 18, with what was eventually diagnosed as deep vein thrombosis. The veteran point guard has been on blood thinners, but was recently cleared to begin contact practices ahead of the playoffs.

The Bucks play Game 1 on Sunday afternoon at the Pacers. Game 2 is on Tuesday in Indiana, before the series shifts to Milwaukee for Game 3 on Friday.
