Price made 28 saves and Paul Byron scored in the fifth round of the shootout and Montreal beat the New York Rangers 3-2 on Tuesday night to give coach Claude Julien his first win in his second stint with the Canadiens. The Canadiens, who started the season 13-1-1, are trying to fend off Ottawa for the lead in the Atlantic Division.

Despite a sluggish beginning that forced backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer to be on top of his game, the Capitals’ offense came to life in a 5-0 blowout of the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. Washington has won a season-best nine in a row to climb atop the Metropolitan Division, Eastern Conference and NHL standings with 63 points.
