Play scrapped, scores reset at now 54-hole EvianPlay scrapped, scores reset at now 54-hole Evian

Day 1 play at the Evian Championship was scrapped on Thursday after officials decided not to resume the first round following a weather delay of nearly four-and-a-half hours. The opening round in Evian-les-Baines, France was halted with no players having completed nine holes. Because of that, rules allow for all scores to be wiped out and play to begin anew on Friday, which is what will happen. The event, the fifth major on the LPGA tour this year, has been reduced to 54 holes. Jessica Korda (through eight holes) and world No. 1 So Yeon Ryu (through five holes) shared the lead, at 2 under, when play was initially suspended. On the opposite end, U.S. Women’s Open winner Sung-Hyun Park was 6 over

Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth take different paths after Players pairingPhil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth take different paths after Players pairing

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – One prominent player’s streak of weekends off came to an end on Friday at The Players Championship. Another’s rolls on. Their names: Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth. Mickelson had missed the cut four consecutive years. Despite a tough finish Friday – he dunked a tee shot and made double at the Stadium Course’s famed par-3 17th – Mickelson moved to the weekend after a second-round 72 left him at 2 under. He now has broken par on the Stadium one time in his last seven trips around the course. “It’s just been on and around the greens I just haven’t quite figured it out,” Spieth said. He will play the next two weeks as the Tour moves closer to home in Dallas and Fort Worth.
