How to watch: Mayakoba Golf Classic, Round 4, leaderboard, tee times, TV times

There's been little to celebrate for Joel Dahmen through the early part of 2021, but that could change in a big way in Punta Cana. Dahmen, who shot a 4-under-par 68 in the third round at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, heads into Sunday's finale tied for the lead with local favorite Rafael Campos. Campos, who is from Puerto Rico but calls the Dominican his second home, drained a birdie on the difficult par-4 18th from off the green to tie Dahmen at 10-under, much to the joy of the small crowd on site this week. Michael Gligic and Danny Willett are a shot back at 9-under and tied for third. Gligic is, like Campos and Dahmen, searching for his first TOUR win. Dahmen, meanwhile, has made only one cut in the 2021 portion of this season, a T60 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. After Thursday's 67 - only his second round in the 60's in 2021 - he admitted his clubs were bent incorrectly earlier this year. While his swing was sound, the ball wasn't flying the way he was hoping it would. His coach in Arizona, Rob Rashell, got him back to normal. "I played four weeks basically, with maybe clubs that weren't fit properly. And that sucks, obviously," said Dahmen. "Things were squirrelly at the beginning of this year and I felt like I was playing better than I was scoring and we kind of worked through some of those things. Then you work on your swing, you don’t chip and putt as much, so I knew it was all right there, I knew I would wake up one day and it was going to be there. "I was putting in the time, I was putting in the effort, just doing the right things. But golf’s really hard that way." He said despite the results being "ugly" so far in 2021, he said he's been hitting it well, and it's showed through 54 holes in Punta Cana. "I've been getting my butt kicked out here since the start of the year, so it feels good to play well," said Dahmen. Dahmen's third-round 68 included four birdies on the windswept back nine at Corales. He admitted his putter has been "hot and cold" this week but gave himself a kick after making the turn Saturday. He saw he was going down the leaderboard, but felt like, the way he was hitting it, he should be moving up. He made birdie on No's 9 and 10, added a couple more on both the par fives, and saved par on the tricky par-3 17th and par-4 18th, after a poor tee shot, to finish it off. Dahmen felt he should have been in the World Golf Championship-Dell Technologies Match Play field based on his body of work in 2020 (he was ranked as high as 64th in the world at the end of last year) and despite thinking he was going to take this week off, not getting into the Match Play was the motivation he needed to tee it up at Corales. Dahmen's been a mainstay on the PGA TOUR since he finished 80th on the FedExCup standings in 2018. He's gotten better every year since, finishing 55th in 2019 and 38th last season. This coming a half-decade on Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada until his breakout season in 2014 when he won twice and was Player of the Year. The 33-year-old's journey in professional golf - including beating testicular cancer when he was 23 - has been well documented, and now he'll be in the final group on Sunday on the PGA TOUR for the first time. He credits his wife, Lona, for supporting all of his on-course success over the nine years they've been together. The couple calls Scottsdale home and have been married for two years now - with Lona documenting much of their travels on her well-followed Instagram account, @TravelEatsAndTreats. She worked two jobs to pay rent when Dahmen was trying to get to the TOUR and said she's always been a positive influence on his life. "I just had a rough seven, eight weeks, it’s not that bad, but the way I play - super consistent, make a lot of cuts - you know, it seemed like it was pretty bad. It’s never as bad as you think it is, it’s never as good as you think it is, and Lona’s been great for me," said Dahmen of his 2021. "She still gives me a hug and a kiss and tells me to go kick butt, so it’s been good." And with Dahmen tied for the lead and 18 holes away from his first PGA TOUR victory, there might be an even better reason for a hug and a kiss Sunday night.

The fourth week of the new PGA TOUR season brings us the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at 7,225-yard, par-71 TPC Summerlin, where Bryson DeChambeau is the defending champion. World No. 1 Brooks Koepka, a seven-time TOUR winner, will begin his season as he and his fellow 20-somethings look to continue their run of three straight tournament titles. Sebastian Muñoz (Sanderson Farms Championship), Cameron Champ (Safeway Open) and Joaquin Niemann (A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier) make up the top three in the FedExCup, respectively, and the oldest among them is Muñoz, 26. (Koepka is 29.) THREE PLAYERS TO PONDER THE FLYOVER The 341-yard, par-4 15th hole is one of the most exciting on the course, as the longer hitters can drive the elevated green, which is long, narrow and surrounded by bunkers. Desert runs down the entire left side of the hole, but it’s mostly defenseless otherwise. Players averaged 3.585 strokes there last year, racking eight eagles and 191 birdies compared to just 30 bogeys and three double-bogeys. The hole begins a stretch of the four best viewing holes at TPC Summerlin.    LANDING ZONE The 444-yard, par-4 18th hole is no pushover, especially not with the nerves that go along with trying to win. It’s long and slightly uphill, demanding a forced carry over a wash off the tee. The green is deep but protected by a lake to the left that has seen its share of golf balls. Players made 16 double-bogeys at the finishing hole last year to go along with three dreaded “others� and 43 bogeys. There were also 77 birdies. WEATHER CHECK From meteorologist Kyle Koval: “A quiet week of weather is likely for Las Vegas with no notable weather systems tracking anywhere near the region. Temperatures will gradually warm from the lower 80s Wednesday to near 90 degrees this weekend. Thursday and Friday have the best potential for any elevated winds with gusts over 15 mph possible. SCATTERSHOTS DeLaet cautiously optimistic for comeback: Graham DeLaet, 37, still has the beard, but while he looks like the same guy, he’s coming off a nearly two-year injury layoff after a stem-cell injection and a second microdiscectomy on his back. His comeback plans have changed a few times, but he’ll give it a go at the Shriners. “You never know until you’re out here,� he told the Toronto Sun. “I’ve shot some good rounds at home with the boys, but it’s different out here and so I’m interested to see what happens, in all honesty.� DeLaet was a member of the 2013 International Presidents Cup and represented Canada at the Olympics in 2016, but that was the last year in which he played a full season on TOUR. He’s playing on a major-medical exemption.  Hadwin eyes Presidents Cup pick: Adam Hadwin hasn’t given up on a Presidents Cup pick from International Captain Ernie Els. “Once the points were done and the team was set, I feel like it was an open ballgame,� Hadwin said at the Safeway Open, where his solo second was his best result since winning the 2017 Valspar Championship. “Obviously, he’s going to take into consideration your year and stuff like that, but I doubt that he’s afraid to go with the hot player, either. I believe that I’m a proven competitor, I’ve been there before. I know what to expect, I’ve played well in big situations. I certainly have some work to do to go out and prove myself before he’ll choose.�   Mickelson, Scott drop in: Phil Mickelson, whose Safeway start was marred by a quadruple-bogey 9 in the first round that led to a missed cut, will make his 13th start at the Shriners but first since 2005. The 49-year-old recently dropped 25-30 pounds and is playing more than usual this fall in hopes of getting a pick from U.S. Presidents Cup Captain Tiger Woods. Mickelson, a 44-time TOUR winner, has played on every U.S. Team, 12 in total, since 1994. Other potential American captain’s picks in Vegas include Tony Finau, Gary Woodland, Charles Howell III and Brandt Snedeker. Adam Scott, meanwhile, is making his tournament debut despite having attended UNLV in 1999-2000.

With a record five additional events on the docket this season, I applaud all entrepreneurial gamers who built a One & Done private game consisting solely of these tournaments. It’s not unlike popular pools that include only the majors. They’re easy, focused and fun. Those of you with Cameron Champ at the Sanderson Farms Championship would be leading the way entering this week’s Puerto Rico Open. The PGA TOUR rookie is taking the week off, but there are 132 hopefuls vying for immunity on the island. Experience at Coco Beach Golf Club isn’t the worst thing in the world in which to invest in the pursuit of 300 FedExCup points. Scott Brown, David Hearn and Rafael Campos have been among the most reliable in this week’s field. Each has done more than enough recently to retain an elevated expectation and you’re not going to miss any of them. Cachet in an additional event can include a burden of unfair expectations, but the less you think about it, the more it makes sense. That’s why Daniel Berger, Peter Uihlein, Chris Kirk and Charl Schwartzel should resonate when the ownership percentages are locked in. Berger is only a month into his return from the injury to his right wrist, but that’s enough. Consider him an easy bonus for he may not need to appear in another additional event for some time. Uihlein deserves a look as he also has positive experience in Puerto Rico. The rub is that we still don’t have details about the unspecified injury that forced him to withdraw during the Waste Management Phoenix Open. From that standpoint, he’s a risk, but he’s chalk properly played. Kirk and Schwartzel are reeling. Avoid both. Matt Every sits atop my Power Rankings, so I’m not hesitating. His blend of success, overall experience and surging form unites at a time when I hope he’s competing with a chip on his shoulder for having to stay warm on the Web.com Tour due to his Past Champion status on the PGA TOUR. Aaron Baddeley surprises when we least expect it, which is to say that it’s better than not at all. It also slots him as a wild card as a One & Done. He tied for eighth in his only trip to Coco Beach in 2016 and comes off an unexpected T49 at Riviera where he open-qualified for entry. Two-man gamers can have a field day with the options, but Corey Conners leads that corps of the complements. Nate Lashley also deserves consideration. If you’re keen on a long shot, I love how D.J. Trahan fits the profile of all things PRO. FUTURE POSSIBILITIES NOTE: Select golfers committed to the tournament are listed alphabetically.
