Woods avoids injury; shoots 1-under at Valspar

Neither a windy afternoon nor having his forearm hit a tree while making a shot on the 16th hole could keep Tiger Woods from shooting a 1-under-par 70 Thursday in the first round of the Valspar Championship.

Adam Hadwin discusses LevelwearAdam Hadwin discusses Levelwear

Q: You have been wearing apparel from Levelwear for the last couple of years on the PGA TOUR. How did you get connected with the brand? A: I got connected with Levelwear in early 2017. I was without an apparel partner at the time. The very first day I wore their stuff in a tournament I went out and shot a 59. Needless to say, we got off on the right foot. Q: How does Levelwear fit your personal style on the course? A: Without sacrificing comfort, Levelwear provides me with understated style that truly represents what I look for in performance golf apparel. I love the fit and cut of both their tops and bottoms, and can’t say enough about the endless variety of colors offered in their shirts. Q: How does the technology built into Levelwear’s apparel help you to perform your best on the course? A: Golf is a sport where comfort is one of the keys to performance and ultimately, success. I can’t speak intelligently to the details of the technology behind Levelwear’s apparel, but I do know that their product feels great and provides me with unparalleled comfort. Q: Being a Canadian, how important is it for you to be affiliated with a Canadian sportswear brand like Levelwear? A: When evaluating new partnerships, I always look at synergies between myself and a given company. Connecting the dots as to why the partnership makes sense.  Being a proud Canadian is part of my identity, part of my personal brand so to speak. So the opportunity to team up with a Canadian company like Levelwear gives the partnership an authentic feel, and I think makes the endorsement far more credible. But most importantly, I find that aligning with Canadian brands just feels right. Q: What are your favorite pieces in Levelwear’s collection? A: Without question, my favourite piece in the Levelwear collection is a shirt called The Sway. It’s a lightweight heathered yarn die fabric with moisture wicking properties, and it comes in a wide variety of colours. Q: What style tips do you have for amateur golfers? A: Replace your khakis with grey pants. Don’t sacrifice comfort, and less is more, so try to keep it simple.

Chesson Hadley surprises at Palmetto Championship at CongareeChesson Hadley surprises at Palmetto Championship at Congaree

RIDGELAND, S.C. – Don’t despair if you didn’t have Chesson Hadley in your fantasy lineup for the Palmetto Championship at Congaree this week. Even Hadley isn’t sure he wouldn’t have picked himself. “No, I definitely didn’t see this coming,” he said after signing for a second-round 66 that got him to 11 under and atop the leaderboard. “… I missed all those cuts in a row, and thank goodness I had three weeks off just to kind of hit the reset switch, get out on the boat, and just kind of forget about some things and spend some time with some family.” Although he has won on the PGA TOUR (2014 Puerto Rico Open), Hadley has struggled mightily this season, twice going five straight starts without seeing the weekend. He came into this week 192th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, 151st in the FedExCup, 320th in the world. Only his putting, in which he ranked 14th on TOUR, seemed to be keeping him afloat. Two things have happened at Congaree. That alacrity with the flatstick has gone into overdrive – he made nearly 137 feet of putts Friday – and he’s rediscovered his tee-to-green game. With the afternoon wave still on the course he was gaining 8-plus strokes on the field from tee to green. “It’s nice to be relevant again,” he said after racking up 14 birdies through the first two rounds. Fortunes can change quickly in this game, and Hadley mentioned a long-ago lunch with James Hahn, who had missed eight straight cuts before winning the 2016 Wells Fargo Championship. For Hadley to author his own rags-to-riches story, he’ll have to keep it going on the weekend. “You know, last night I’m getting texts from everybody,” he said, “like, ‘Great playing.’ I appreciate that, and it does make me feel good that I have that type of support, but let’s – I got a lot of golf to be played. “I’m very thankful to be in the spot I’m at and not have to sweat out a cut line,” he added.
