The biggest purse offered in thoroughbred racing – $12 million – is up for grabs Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where California Chrome and Arrogate headline the field of the inaugural Pegasus World Cup. The winner’s connections will walk away with more than $7 million between purse money and a share of what could be a massive amount of wagering on the race.

River’s Prayer beat Strong Faith by a half-length Friday in the $200,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap at Del Mar. Ridden by Clinton Potts, River’s Prayer covered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17.85, fastest at the distance at Del Mar’s summer meeting. River’s Prayer paid $6.20, $3.20 and $2.80. Strong Faith returned $4 and $3.20, while Lady Gamer was another 4 3/4 lengths back in third and paid $3.40 to show.

There were 7 other stakes on Preakness day but because of the rain only one of the turf races, the Gallorette (G3) won by Ultra Brat, stayed on the grass. The Dixie Stakes (G3) was won by Fire Away on the dirt and the Maryland Sprint Stakes (G3) won by Switzerland. Get the results, charts, and photos for all 7 races here.
