Karakorum Starlet captured the $80,000 Union Avenue Stakes under a ride by Kent Desormeaux, who had four winners Monday at Saratoga Race Course. The 4-year-old chestnut filly, trained by Jeff Odintz, broke in front and held off Scatkey at the head of the stretch. She ran the six furlongs in 1:10.95, winning by one length and paying $9, $5.40, and $3.70.

Russell Baze, the winningest jockey in thoroughbred racing history, was suspended for 15 days and fined on Sunday for using his whip on an injured horse who later died. Baze, who has 9,826 career victories, was headed to an easy win aboard Imperial Eyes in the first race Thursday at Bay Meadows when the horse took a bad step and broke down in the deep stretch.

Fort Prado rallied to beat T.D. Vance by a head Thursday in the $112,600 Woodford Stakes at Keeneland. The 6-year-old Fort Prado, ridden by Rene Douglas, ran 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf course in 1:03.20 and paid $11, $4.80 and $3.40. T.D. Vance returned $3.40 and $2.60, and Atticus Kristy paid $5.40 to show.
