FBI probing crash of Rockies’ computers

Colorado Rockies fan Eduardo Casias uses two laptop computers on the trunk lid of his car to try to by tickets on the Internet to the World Series games in Denver, while he was parked in front of Coors Field on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007. The Rockies announced Tuesday that all three baseball games were sold out Tuesday.

The FBI opened an investigation after the Colorado Rockies claimed an “external, malicious attack” on computers halted the team’s first attempt to sell World Series tickets. Computer servers handling the online-only sale were overwhelmed by 8.5 million hits in the first 90 minutes Monday, crashing the system and forcing the Rockies to suspend sales.
