Thrashers G Lehtonen put on injured list

The Thrashers placed goalie Kari Lehtonen on the injured list Friday after he hurt his groin in Atlanta’s first win of the season. The previous night, Lehtonen left a 5-3 victory over the New York Rangers with 8 1/2 minutes left in the first period. The team said he strained his groin, but in a different area than a similar injury that kept him out for more than two months in 2005.

Kane, the first overall pick in this year’s NHL draft, beat Hasek with a backhand shot on the glove side.

The NHL will abandon the rest of the regular season and go straight into the playoffs with 24 teams instead of 16 – if it is able to resume play. The decision, announced Tuedsay by Commissioner Gary Bettman, is no guarantee that games are coming back. The NHL and the NHL Players’ Association must still figure out health and safety protocols and solve other issues.
