Comrie powers Isles to sweep of Sabres

New York Islanders' Radek Martinek, right, of the Czech Republic, checks Buffalo Sabres' Brian Campbell during the third period of an NHL hockey game Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y.

If the New York Islanders had Mike Comrie last spring, they might have put quite a scare into the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Buffalo Sabres. Comrie made the most of his first two games with the Islanders, scoring two goals for the second straight night and lifting New York to a 3-2 victory Saturday that completed a sweep of the season-opening, home-and-home series against Buffalo.

Marek Langhamer made enough saves in a relief appearance in his NHL debut to help the Arizona Coyotes get another big win. Langhamer replaced starter Mike Smith early in the third period and stopped two point-blank shots in the closing seconds, helping the Coyotes hold off the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 Monday night. ”It was tough to jump right into it, but guys played a great game in front of me,” said Langhamer who had seven saves on eight shots.
