The New Orleans Pelicans are expected to hire Joe Dumars as their lead basketball executive to replace David Griffin. Dumars is currently head of basketball operations in the NBA’s league office.
Dumars and the Pelicans are expected to engage in serious conversations to finalize a deal by the end of the week. Dumars is a native of Louisiana.
Dumars was the Detroit Pistons’ lead basketball executive from 2000 until 2014, winning a championship in 2004. Dumars also served in a number of capacities with the Sacramento Kings from 2019 until 2022.
The Phoenix Suns have fired Mike Budenholzer as head coach after just one season in the job. Budenholzer replaced Frank Vogel, who also lasted just one season.
The Suns missed the Play-In entirely with a highly disappointing season. The Suns tried to trade for Jimmy Butler for multiple months but were unable to send out Bradley Beal in the process.
The Suns are expected to trade Kevin Durant this offseason and reset the roster around Devin Booker.
